Just days after Apple's live stream of the iPhone 6 unveiling was marred by technical difficulties, Apple was spooked again by gremlins. In some countries, the online Apple Store was down, preventing consumers in the affected countries from pre-ordering the Apple iPhone 6 and the Apple iPhone 6 Plus.
As late as 4am Eastern Time Friday morning in the U.S., the Apple Store was down in the U.S., Canada and India. Some were able to circumvent the problem by turning to the Apple Store app. Meanwhile, things were running smoothly for those pre-ordering the iPhone 6 in markets like the U.K., Australia, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan and Singapore.
Surprise! Some Exclusive Screenshots of the Upcoming Windows 9 Technical Preview has been leaked ahead of the scheduled release which is set for early 2015. The Preview is for Microsoft Windows NT 6.4 Build 9834 which is known as "Windows 9".
The screenshots show a refreshed user interface with some new, flat iconography, alongside the long awaited return of the classic Start menu. Windows 9 can run with just 1GB of RAM, which means that Microsoft has done some serious under the hood work to optimize the OS.
Codenamed Threshold, Windows 9 is anticipated to bring some new features as well. One of them is the highly anticipated option to add a bunch of workspaces. Akin to Linux, those workspaces can hold different applications and make switching between different working environments a breeze.
Microsoft has today released the January update for Windows 10 Technical Preview. This can now be downloaded from the dedicated site, and you can even get an ISO file if you so wish. The January build comes with many new features, and probably the most important new things inside of it are Cortana and the new Xbox app.
While the latter doesn't yet support streaming games from an Xbox One to a PC, it does let you view friends activity, post to timeline, and view game DVR videos. And there's an important caveat to note about Microsoft's personal assistant, namely that it's currently available in US English only. As you may expect, it does sync to Windows Phone.
The new Action Center has replaced the Charms bar, and it houses notifications, quick action keys, and settings. The People, Outlook, Photos, and Maps apps have been updated. A new "smart snap" mode is in, which shows you a list of running apps when you snap another app, assuming that you'd want to snap an additional one after that.
Continuum lets you switch between tablet and PC mode with one click/tap. For the Surface Pro 3, the switch should automatically be employed when you attach or remove its keyboard.
