Samsung has officially launched its "YOUM" brand for flexible AMOLED displays, ahead of the bendable panels showing up in commercial hardware later this year. Registered as a trademark complete with a bendy YOUM logo in mid-March, and detailed on the new Samsung Mobile Display site, YOUM promises to be thinner and lighter than traditional AMOLED and LCD-TFT screens, as well as being "unbreakable."

That is down to the differences in the sandwich of layers that make up a YOUM flexible display. An LCD screen would usually have six, two of which would be glass; an OLED panel would have four, again two of which would be glass.

It is that glass which makes the screens more vulnerable to damage, and indeed stops them from flexing or folding. In contrast, Samsung YOUM panels use film-based encapsulation ("encap") and TFT layers, rather than glass substrates, which make them more resilient to damage along with allowing more flexibility in device design.

Samsung has previously shown off foldable devices as well as various flexible prototypes, and has suggested that as well as gadgets which literally bend, it could also use the YOUM AMOLED technology to create wraparound displays that could cover two or more surfaces. That way, your phone could have a regular front screen that continues around to the side.

Samsung SMART TV

Samsung revealed some of its 2012 "SMART" HDTVs would include a built in camera and mic to enable a feature it calls Smart Interaction, which is just a brand name for voice and gesture control. The company showed it at the CES booth and we was squeezed between all of those 55-inch OLEDs, I you look at the demo below you will found it mirrored the suddenly common Kinect functionality we have become accustomed to closely.

Samsung SMART TV

Samsung setup has a keyword that activates it "Hi TV" and like the recently upgraded Xbox 360 dashboard, there has been a lot of work done to make sure it recognizes many real words. A key difference from the Kinect however, is that Samsung has also developed a Bluetooth-connected IR blaster that can sit in front of your cable box and extend the control to other devices that way. As you can see on the DEMO Below that the control was generally tight and responsive, however it still lacks truly natural communication and the test volunteer had some trouble turning the TV off. Check out the video after the break and see if a future of talking to the TV is for you we will be on the couch with our remotes.

The Price of the Samsung 2012 SMART HDTV will start at $799 Up to $3,999 for the 65-inch version. but the official market prices is not yet confirmed.

FaceUnlock Test

Samsung is finally delivering the long waited Value Pack Update for the original Galaxy S. The VPU came with many Ice cream sandwhich features, including Face unlock, but this time samsung modify something to make it more secured.

Blink to Unlock!

It turns out, the face unlock is actually better than the one present in the stock Android ICS (Galaxy Nexus), which is easy to bypass with a photo. Samsung team responsible for the value pack heard those concerns and made this unlock option more secure. The solution is very clever in its simplicity the user has to blink before the phone would unlock. And that is not something a photo can do.

However, This technique can be bypassed with a video which is much harder to get.

Apple and Samsung have met in court MANY times over designs, patents and more over the past few years. Among Apple numerous complaints was the repeated allegation that Samsung smartphones and tablets are copycat devices that stole numerous elements from the iPhone and iPad designs. While similarities between rival gadgets are sometimes bound to appear from time to time Apple own iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S feature a design that is quite familiar the Samsung executive responsible for the Galaxy S II design has finally spoken out in response to claims that the device is an iPhone clone.

"I have made thousands of sketches and hundreds of prototype products (for the Galaxy), Does that mean I was putting on a mock show for so long, pretending to be designing?" Samsung vice president of design Lee Minhyouk told Reuters in an interview.

Lee takes Apple copycat accusations personally and is offended by the claims.

"As a designer, there is an issue of dignity, The Galaxy is original from the beginning, and I am the one who made it. It is a totally different product with a different design language and different technology infused."
