Galaxy Note II

Rumor has it that a cheaper alternative to the Samsung Galaxy Note II is already in the works and will be released on the European market. It might not carry the Note branding, however, as it will not come with an S Pen, according to the source.

It is also speculated that an LCD screen will be used instead of an AMOLED panel. The idea behind this rumored handset is to let a broader range of consumers have a taste of what having a smartphone with a huge screen feels like. How much the cheaper Note II alternative will cost, however, is not being mentioned.

Samsung tablet

Next up we have a rumor about a 13.3-inch tablet by Samsung that will mimic the concept behind the Asus Transformer series. In other words, the slate will be accompanied by a physical keyboard dock. The dock could also be sold separately, as an optional accessory. Our guess is that this mysterious 13.3-inch tablet will run Android.

Galaxy S III

According to Swedish tech firm Ericsson, Samsung is currently selling unlicensed mobile devices after a patent deal signed by both firms in 2001 and renewed in 2007, expired.

The patents covered by the licensing pact are standards essential patents meaning that they are covered by the FRAND rules which means that licensing deals for these patents should be "fair, reasonable, and non-discriminatory". Samsung refused to renew it, so Ericsson sued Samsung for these patents.

Ericsson logo 2013

"Despite nearly two years of negotiations involving the most senior management at both companies, Samsung has refused to renew its expired license to Ericsson's industry leading portfolio of telecommunications patents on the same fair, reasonable, and non-discriminatory (FRAND) terms that Samsung's competitors have previously accepted.

Samsung has sold hundreds of millions of unlicensed cellular handsets, smartphones, tablet computers, and televisions since the expiration of its license, including its flagship Galaxy S III smartphone

At the trial of that matter in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California, Samsung asserted all companies implementing a standard in its products must seek out and accept a license on FRAND terms. Yet, when the tables are turned and Samsung finds itself in the position of being the prospective licensee, it now refuses to license Ericsson's standard-essential portfolio at FRAND rates." - Ericsson

YOUM Samsung 2013

A BBC report confirmed that Samsung Display Inc. will start delivering the previously rumored flexible OLED screens Samsung YOUM. This technology will be the future of Smartphones and tablets... Imagine treating your phone like a piece of paper.

YOUM

Samsung is obviously not the only company working on the technology. LG, Philips, Sharp, Sony and Nokia are all working on flexible displays, but the word is that Samsung will be the first to actually ship the displays in products as early as next year 2013.

Of course, we still don't have flexible motherboards, or flexible batteries, so don't expect fully flexible phones just yet. Researchers are still working on just such handsets, razor-thin, paper-like and bendable.

Samsung is working on an Android 5.0 (Key Lime Pie) Smartphone, the handset modern number is GT-I9525, It's obviously a High-end device. It's test results appeared on Nenamark 2's databases and according to the screenshot below it's running Android 5.0 that hasn't been released yet. This device may be the Next Galaxy Nexus phone from Samsung.

In addition to Android platform version there were some details about the device specs too, the GT-I9525 is packing HD resolution of 720 x 1280, 1.8 GHz processor and the GPU is Mali-400 MP graphics chip. That's pretty much all the available information we have to work with, and it's definitely not much.

The model number, though, makes things really strange, because it means it's unlikely for this phone to e a successor to the Galaxy S III. The GS III's model number is I9300, while we recently saw the I9400 appear as a model on Nenamark too.

5-inch hd

The latest HTC device for Verizon, DROID DNA, has started the 5-inch 1080p screen Era in the U.S., but it is just the first of many devices with such insanely detailed screens coming up. And it won't take too long by mid-2013 high-end smartphones with 1080p displays will be common.

That is not a huge surprise as we are all expecting the newest crop of Android smartphones to indeed feature 5-inch 1080p displays, but it's reassuring to hear that by the middle of next year the technology will be commonplace. We expect Samsung, LG and others to unveil their new 2013 devices at CES and MWC, the two biggest tech shows, held in January and February. Samsung will inlclude its sAMOLED FHD technology on its upcoming Galaxy S IV to compete on the 2013 market.

"We see better-than-expected (HTC) sales and margins in the first half of 2013 on new product launches, including the 5-inch Butterfly models and the next-generation models to be announced at the Mobile World Congress. However, we are still cautious on the second half of 2013, expecting competition to be intensified from Apple, Samsung," -  Dale Gai, Barclays analyst concluded

All rumors agree that upcoming state-of-the-art smartphones will have that very same size and resolution of 5-inches at 1080p with 441ppi.

In the motion filed on Friday by Apple, it says "Apple does not seek to accuse the Jelly Bean or the Ice Cream Sandwich platforms operating on any Samsung device." Apple quotes Samsung's website in the motion, which says that the Korean based tech titan "is in close communication with both Google and [its] carrier partners to upgrade devices to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean as quickly and as smoothly as possible." Add to that the Samsung TouchWiz UI which runs on top of Android, and Apple felt that it should not leave out devices getting updated to a new OS build.
