Huawei Ascend D2's specs has been leaked, featuring a 5-inch 1920×1080 Full HD touchscreen, a quad-core 1.5 GHz processor, a 13 MP rear camera, 1.3 MP front-facing camera, 2 GB of RAM, and a 3,000 mAh battery. It will run Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. However, unlike the other phones from Oppo, Nubia and HTC. Huawei have chosen their own ‘homemade' quad-core processor names the Hass K3V2 and clocked at 1.5Ghz.

GizChina claims the Ascend D2 measures in at 9.9mm, quite a bit more compared to 7.5mm ZTE Nubia Z5, and weighs about a rather heavy at around 170 grams. Could this extra girth and weight be as a result of much larger 3000mAh battery? We will have to wait and see.

Huawei are anticipated to launch the Ascend D2 in the first few weeks of January where it'll directly take on the Oppo Find 5 and Nubia Z5 and it is priced directly between those 2 phones at 3299 Yuan (528 US Dollars). Currently we are not sure on the internal storage or the possibility of LTE, definitely keep you posted.

Google and Microsoft both reportedly want to extend the Nexus 7 and Surface tablet lineups to include smartphones as a means to further increase the penetration of their own platforms, but the two companies will implement the techniques in a different tune, based on industry sources.

Google aims to launch smartphones based on its Nexus 7 platform in cooperation using a number of smartphone branded vendors with Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, Sony Mobile Communications and HTC likely to be potential partners, said the sources.

However, Microsoft is reportedly tapping ODM maker Pegatron for that production of WP8-based smartphones slated for launch within the first half of 2013, the sources indicated.

Google reportedly will permit branded vendors setting hardware specifications along with looks of the forthcoming Nexus smartphones so long as the models are based on its latest native Android system, said the sources, adding this approach seems to be acceptable to brand players, since Google apparently is keeping its promise of not offering preferential treatment to Motorola.

Microsoft's go on to cooperate with ODMs could backfire, since its own-brand WP8 smartphones may compete directly with comparable models via its brand partners, including Nokia, HTC and Samsung. The three branded vendors have unveiled their WP8 models.

Additionally, Microsoft also requires all WP8 models to utilize the same platform and interface, reducing the differentiation of WP8 smartphones and thus creating more competition in the same camp, the source commented.

There are a few points here that are indisputable, but fans of the Pre might take umbrage at a few of the things here about the Pre (click the image above for the full size):

* The Palm Pre "Touchscreen control gestures not intuitive" whereas the iPhone features "Patented Multi-Touch screen" and "Fast and responsive navigation." Hokay.

* The iPhone sports a "Thinner, lighter, bigger screen, metal and glass design" while the Pre is "Available in Black only; plastic casing."

* The Pre gets knocked for not being a GSM world phone and "Limited free Wi-Fi access" because they don't get to use AT&T Hotpots.

* The Pre has an "Unproven App Catalog app store."

Ok, so we'll leave it as an exercise to our readers to debunk and take issue with any and all of the above (well, here's a start: the weight difference between the iPhone and the Pre: two grams. OH NOES!).
