After years of speculations, we finally have something official to speak about the topic. During the press conference in Korea where the Galaxy Note 8 was launched a few days ago, President of Samsung Mobiles, DJ Koh went on and said the following lines.

"We have a plan to adopt a foldable display in our roadmap. We are currently addressing some technological hurdles to commercialize such a device. We will launch a foldable device when we are fully ready, and we are aiming to do so next year..."

Granted, it's only a plan according to the statement, but it isn't very unlikely that this plan will finally come into fruition in 2018. The reason I think so is because he said it out loud in a press conference. Would the President of Samsung Mobiles have declared it to the press if it wasn't all but confirmed? That would be unwise and the CEO of Samsung Mobiles is not unwise! The question is, will Samsung be launching a new line of handsets with foldable displays or will they just incorporate it into their existing flagship lineups? What do you think?

We use them to keep connected with friends and family, to navigate the world, find a date, take photos, watch videos, and play games at one of the high-end pay by phone bill casino sites, all at the swipe of a finger. Reports now show that more people use their mobile devices to have a bet or wager online, and because these online sites are operated under strict rules and regulations, and have to be licenced to run, increasing numbers are turning to online sites in preference to going out, for instance, to a bricks and mortar casino.

There is no doubt that the Smartphone has changed our lives yet we are still only starting to understand the full impact that this new technology is having on our lives, our relationships and the lives of our children.

Infact, there has been a great deal of research carried out on Smartphone usage, but we are still only scraping at the surface of how this use interfaces with our relationships. Questions like: Is the smartphone helping us be better connected, or is it taking us away from our relationships, and does using the smartphone help us to take a few minutes out from our busy lives, or is it distracting us from real problems, need to be addressed.

What should always be remembered is that the Smartphone is not the real problem as it is actually a pretty impressive tool, what is the issues is how we use that tool, how we use the computer we can carry about in our pocket or bag that is the real issue.

If you ask most adolescents if they could live without their phone, the answer would be a resounding no, but that answer is not just limited to adolescents as many adults would give the same reply.

Take Australia as an example, almost 85% own a smartphone, that is around 16 million people just in one country, and Australia is only the fourth biggest nation of smartphone users in the world, our love affair with the smartphone is well and truly established, so much so that it is the 'must have' fashion accessory to have, and there is even phubbing to contend with.

'Phubbing' (for those who do not know) is the act of snubbing your partner in favour of being on your smartphone and we have all witnessed it (as well as doing it.) How many times can we go into a restaurant and see a couple hardly speaking to each other over the table whilst they are texting away or taking pics of the superb meal, they are out enjoying on Instagram?

Knowing when and when not to use a smartphone, or where is appropriate to take pictures is one thing, but being able to put down that mobile device is a completely different matter.

The second generation Mi Mix is finally here as it was launched a few hours earlier by Xiaomi during an exclusive press conference at home. Now that we know everything that there is to know about the handset, we can assure you that there are quite a few good things about it, as well as a few confusing decisions that we are not exactly a fan of.

The Good

·         Full-screen, near-borderless 5.99-inch display

·         Latest flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC with 6GB of RAM

·         Affordable pricing; $506/RMB 3299 for 6 GB + 64 GB, $552/3599 for 6 GB + 128 GB and $614/RMB 3999 for 6 GB + 256 GB

·         Curved on all four sides

·         Global antennae band support

·         Larger availability

·         Easier to handle

·         Has dedicated earphone for clear phone calls, unlike its predecessor

·         It looks gorgeous

The Bad

·         The display is not OLED

·         The resolution is still not QHD but just FHD+ or 2160 x 1080 resolution (18:9 aspect ratio)

·         Doesn't have the dual camera sported by the Xiaomi Mi 6

·         No headphone jack

There is nothing ugly about the Mi Mix 2 fortunately and if you can live without some of the somewhat controversial decisions, the Mi Mix could be that unique flagship phone you always wanted! If you are willing to shell out as much as $720 though, a rarer all-ceramic version of the smartphone with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage will also be available for grabs soon.

At this point, the Android Nougat 7.0 OS is more than a year old, but thanks to the very botched up update system which most Android smartphone users must deal with, users are just glad to hear about the year-old update finally arriving on their smartphone model. While Samsung has most definitely stepped up their game recently by providing updates that are much more timely than they used to be a few years ago, they still take a long time to release major OS upgrades for all their models. Having said all that, we have good news for you if you live in India and you own a Galaxy A7 (2017); the much awaited Android Nougat 7.0 update is now live via OTA.

Firmware version A720FXXU2BQI2 is rolling out to model number SM-A720F throughout the entire Indian subcontinent. It's a huge update of 1376.35MB, so do not forget to plug in your Wi-Fi or it will drain your mobile data in a flash. Some of the other improvements that come with the firmware (aside from the default ones which will come with all Nougat updates) include the following.

·        improved notifications

·        improved Quick Settings features

·        Dual Messenger

·        Better multi-window

·        Samsung Pass

·        Improved Always-on Display

·        Faster app installation

Head over to our firmware section to find all the latest available updates for your Samsung smartphones and tablets.
