Last month, Motorola and Qualcomm confirmed that a new Moto flagship smartphone powered by a Snapdragon 810 processor would be introduced this year. Most likely, this will be the next-gen Moto X. If a recent rumor is to be believed, the new Moto X could be "smarter than any other smartphone", though for now we don't know what that might mean.

After pushing the official Android 5.0 Lollipop update to the Moto X (2014), Motorola is currently testing Google's latest Android 5.1 Lollipop for the same device. The company is known for its fast stable updates.

The Lollipop version 23.1.28 is being tested out with several improvements such as reducing the noise in low-light shots of the rear camera and front-facing camera too. The Moto X (2014) Lollipop 5.1 update is expected to roll-out Over-the-air (OTA) next Month (April).

Device Protection is one important feature that keeps the lost or stolen devices locked even if the factory settings reset is tried and functions only when signed in with actual Google account. Apart from these improvements, there are several under the hood tweaks arriving with this update.

Droid Turbo

If you own a Motorola Droid Turbo and you are waiting for your Lollipop update ? You are in luck, Apparently the Droid Turbo will not get any build based on Android 5.0, but instead will be updated directly with Android 5.1 Lollipop which is currently the absolute latest version of Google's mobile OS.

This probably means you still have some waiting to do until the new software will reach your handset, unfortunately. Google has just started rolling out Android 5.1 to its Nexus devices, and not even all of those have it yet. On the other hand, Motorola has been fast with updates lately, so perhaps it will move quickly with this one too.

The reason for the jump from KitKat straight to Android 5.1 Lollipop apparently has to do with Verizon. The carrier "demands" VoLTE support baked into the Turbo's software, and Android 5.1 provides that natively. So for Motorola working on backporting this feature to the first Lollipop release, only to then have to switch to Android's native implementation with the 5.1 update would have been a big waste of resources. Hence, the decision to skip 5.0 altogether.

lollipop 5.0

Motorola is really doing a good job on updating its devices to the latest Lollipop builds. Users of various Moto devices have had mixed luck with the OS update and various reports have been pouring in from all around the world during the last few months.

Today, the Original Moto G (2013) model X1032, is receiving Lollipop 5.0.2 in the UK. The update came a few days after a notification from Motorola Update Services announced that the package will be seeding shortly. There is still no notification of the update, but manually checking the Update menu earlier today, has yielded the long-anticipated result.

Hopefully the long update delay has given Motorola the chance to patch various issues with early Android 5 builds and the 5.0.2 builds that have begun seeding will offer the stability and performance that Moto devices are expected to deliver.
