Google Chrome Beta for Android has just been update to v41.0.2272.34 with some critical bug fixes and stability improvements along with some New features added in the "flags" section

 

One of the New features on Chrome Beta v41 is the "pull to refresh" feature, which is available to (almost) all web pages. It's now easier to refresh any page, just like you do on any App, just pull and release to refresh the page. Besides, If your internet connection (WiFi/3G) got disconnected, Chrome Beta will auto-reload the webpage when it detects that your connection is back online.

 

 

The other change we're seeing is in the settings UI, which is more material in v41 on KitKat devices. Finally, there's a new flag in Chrome Beta to scan credit cards to fill forms faster, but it doesn't appear to do anything when enabled right now.

Google has just officially updated Chrome for Android stable to version v43.0.2357.78 with few bug fixes, minor UI changes and one Major feature called "Touch to search". Nokia announced its first lollipop tablet, Nokia N1 last month with its own UI on top which called the Nokia Z Launcher. Well, lucky enough, the Nokia Z Launcher is still in BETA stages and has been updated to version 1.0.5 with some bug fixes and now works on more devices.

 

 

The Launcher learns from your usage and picks up contextual cues (e.g. whether it's morning or evening), but the feature that sets it apart is scribbling.

 

Instead of having to hunt down the right shortcut though an alphabetized list, you just your finger to write the first letter and the Z Launcher will display matching apps sorted by how much you use each one of them.

HTC Scribble is Now Available in the Play Store. HTC Scribble is one of those little add-on features in Sense that doesn't get much press... on account of it not being very useful. Scribble is basically a digital scrapbooking app made to highlight some other features of Sense, like Zoe and some rudimentary stylus support. The app was introduced on the plus-sized HTC One Max, but may be available for other One devices.

 

 

HTC bills Scribble as a super-flexible way to do everything from making a digital collage to keeping track of a budget, but aside from a few neat extras like the ability to take a photo inside the app itself, it's probably more unwieldy than dedicated apps. Text, audio recordings, and a variety of stickers can be inserted into a Scribble project, and at least some of the text can be dynamic, including basic column support.

For all the issues with the Duo Camera on HTC's flagship One M8, the selective focus thing is pretty fun to play with. With the newest update to the HTC Gallery app in the Play Store, M8 owners can share Duo Camera images to the web that anyone can use to change the focus. It's sort of like those Lytro camera embeds.

 

 

Now, you can share with your friends your images with 3D-effect or Ufocus images as an interactive image online. It's a software trick, but it's more reliable than most similar solutions on other devices. In the updated Gallery app, just share your Ufocus edit and you can embed the image anyplace online. It's also hosted by HTC.

A new document has emerged that apparently reveals Telus' plans to update their versions of the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and the Galaxy S5. While the update to Marshmallow has not exactly been a fast one by any means, it is true that many smartphones have started to receive the upgrade recently. As both the smartphones are over two years old now, it was expected that it would be quite a while before they get the Android 6.0.1 upgrade. This happens typically because recent high-end devices are always the first ones to be updated, followed by models from the previous generations.

Arjun Puri is the person who first posted the document from Telus on Tweeter, where the dates have clearly been listed for many smartphones. If the Canadian carrier manages to keep their schedule, then the S5 should start receiving its update from May 2. The Note 4 will also be updated in the same month but that roll out will start a fortnight later on May 16.

It is definitely nice to see that even the older smartphones are getting new life breathed into them in the form of the latest Android OS but the dates can be delayed, as they often are. Nonetheless, the announcement confirms that the update is at least coming, albeit a little late.

Reading a book on a small screen is not easy. Digital books can scale text according to screen size to ease the problem, but in case of PDF files and comic books which have fixed page size it won't be possible to scale according to screen size without having negative impact on the content.

Google recently announced an update to its Play Books app specifically designed to address this issue. Now Comic book lovers will have better reading experience in their favourite smartphone and tablets.

It focuses on better navigation by implementing a new vertical scrolling feature for comic books in landscape layout. All you need to do is flip the device on its side and scroll through the complete story using vertical swipes. Apart from this Google has also made it easy to search and discover new comics. The redesigned app now organizes series' by the editions, volumes and issues. You will be able to see all the individual issues and synopsis simply by tapping on a series. According to a senior product manager from Google, there would be personalized recommendations for new comics and series to the users.

On this occasion, for a limited period of time Google is offering some digital issues for free. Android Pay is officially rolling-out to Android devices across the US and Canada. Google is replacing its old Wallet App with Android Pay v1.0.1 and launching a new Wallet App on the play store. In order to have the Android Pay app work on your phone you need to download and install the Google Play Services 8.3 APK first.

 

 

First, make sure you download the right version of play Services 8.3 and pay attention to the -XYZ naming scheme explained on the page. Older versions of Play Services will not permit Android Pay to work. When you get Android Pay installed, it will have you add a card or import one from Wallet.

Samsung recently released its S Health app to users who don't own Galaxy smartphones and tablets. Now they have updated the app to make it compatible with Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Currently there are very few phones like two Google Nexus phones and the HTC One A9 which are running on Android 6.0. But, it can be seen that Samsung is interested in supporting new version of Android from the very beginning. Also there is a good chance that they have plans to update the devices to Android 6.0 in the near future. But, let's not get too optimistic here.

Few weeks ago, Google revealed its new Logo with an updated multi-colored shape. The official Google App for Android has been updated to version 5.5.26 with more changes to match the Google's new look.

Swiftkey was recently updated with a Theme store and a FREE price tag. While Swiftkey offers good autocorrect, emoji, and swipe input, it also lags pretty noticeably in some instances. The new update will fix that.

 

 

The keyboard has had a nasty habit as of late where it would hang for a fraction of a second when you started getting up to speed, which can really throw you off. An update to the Google Play Music App to v5.6.1616, brings some New Music widgets. The old 4x1 Play Music widget now starts at 3 x 1, and is available in every size up to 4x4. Another widget is 1x1, and when tapped, plays the "I'm Feeling Lucky" radio station without even launching the Google Play Music app.

 

 

After you update the app, searching for a particular song or artist, will result in public playlists appearing at the bottom of the screen. You can subscribe to these playlists or download them just as if you had created them yourself.

 

 

The update also includes improvements to the download management which is now called "Manage downloads" from its previous name, "View download queue." The name might be different, but it works the same way. It also will show you how much room on your device is being taken up by your tunes, and reveals the best ways to clear them from your phone.

Google has finally updated it's Play Newsstand App with Materiel Design UI, to be ready for the Android L launch this month. The Newsstand essentially combining Magazines and Google Currents in one app. The widgets has been updated too.

 

Newsstand is now using Material Design, which incorporates "larger images, more contextual headers, and smoother transitions" into the overall feel of the app. Users are also able to swipe horizontally between topics, as well as vertically to get more info on a particular topic.

 

 

Also new with this update is a better way to read magazines on phones. The experience has generally been fine on tablets , but definitely needed some work on the smaller screen. As of now, phones will get the option to pick and choose between articles, which will display in a much easier to read format more like that of the current News section of the app. Improved topic cards are now front and center, making it even easier to find content relevant to your interests.

The stable version of Google Chrome for Android has been update to version 38, the update brings some bug fixes along with Material UI tweaks, this update prepare the chrome browser for the Android L official release.

Google has just pushed a new update to the Google Play Services App to version 6.1.71 which brings some minor enhancements. The first think you'll notice is the New Material Icon for the Grey "Google Settings" App on your App drawer.

 

The Update also packs some UI tweaks that brings the Android L Material-style check-boxes.

 

 

Note that his APK behaves oddly on the L preview. The colors are dark, resources mismatched, and the overflow button causes a force close. Google Play Games App has been updated to version 2.1.10 for the Android 5.0 Lollipop. The update brings Material Design UI to the whole App.

Google updated its Hangouts App to v2.4 with some minor improvements. In the New Hangouts 2.4 you will natice that if you slide over the dialer screen there is now a call credit display in the upper right corner.

Today, Google updated its Docs, Sheets and Slides Apps with full Material Design UI and many other improvements in order to make them Lollipop-ready for the big launch on November,3rd.

 

 

Let's get the biggest visual tweak out of the way first. Yes, Google has changed the hamburger menu icon in the action bar. No, it still doesn't match the majority of its other updated apps.

 

This look is consistent across Docs, Sheets, and Slides. Another change that appears across all three apps is the addition of an "Incoming" section in the sidebar that consolidates all of the files that other people have shared with you.

 

 

In Docs in particular, a new "Make a copy" option has appeared under "Share & export" that lets you create a new document using the current one as a template. It's a feature that makes much more sense if you don't use a blank document.

Google Wallet has been updated with several nice features. One of them is the option to set up a recurring bank transfer to automatically add funds to your Wallet account.

 

You can set up the recurring bank transfer on a weekly, bi-weekly or monthly basis and cancel it any time. Google says that there are no fees or minimum balance requirements for the automatic transfer. If your balance gets low, you can set an alert to remind you to add funds.

 

 

Additionally, Google has updated the Wallet app interface with Material design. It looks cooler now and more in line with the rest of the company's apps. Finally, you can cancel your physical Google Wallet card from within the app itself.

Google Keep has just been update to version 3.0 that is included on the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop. Google Keep 3.0 packs a full new Material Design UI and some other minor improvements and features.

 

There's also a New search interface that allows users to search by type of note, or by color. The navigation drawer has also been updated with material in mind and comes very close to matching guidelines.

 

 

Also of note is a new "snackbar" to allow for quick undo actions when notes are archived. Of course Keep also gets a tinted status bar to complement it's eye-pleasing yellow brand color.

Another minor update to the Google's official Music App. Google Play Music 5.7.1780Q update is Rolling-out, and it includes a banner on the Leanback Launcher for those who owns a Google Nexus Player. The update also adds access to a list of recently played tracks and recommendations, just like you would have on a phone, tablet, or the web.

 

 

The only other immediately noticeable addition is a menu option for Settings, but it just provides a link to the open source licenses Google has to disclose. Hopefully it will gain a little more value in the future. While this update does bring the Android TV experience a little closer to that of its Android brethren, there are a few missing features. Most notably, there's no way to manage a playlist, and the artist page still doesn't show a background description.

Chainfire's SuperSU App, one of the most popular "poweruser" tools for Android, which allows you to gain root access and manage root permissions for the apps that might need it, has just been updated with a substantial update. The most recent version of the app (v2.35), is the first full update ever since 2.01, which rolled out in the beginning of June.

 

SuperSU v2.35 is a substantial improvement of the app for several reasons. The most important one is the app's now fully compatible with Android 5.0 Lollipop. Chainfire reveals that it has been quite hard to find a viable workaround for hopping over the hurdles that Google has implemented in SELinux, along with everything else that prevented SuperSU from gaining root access. However, the app might still have issues with some of the early unofficial Lollipop builds that have surfaced for select Android warriors of late.

 

 

Apart from this, the user interface of the SuperSU app has been slightly refreshed in accordance with the Material Design guidelines. Chainfire says that he's made only slight imporvements over the previous layout, as the full adoption of Material Design is not "a top priority at the moment". But let's be frank here, folks the beauty of SuperSU does not lie in its interface, but in the under-the-hood features that it has in tow.

Google+ App has just been updated to v4.8 with minor bug fixes and performance improvements.

 

In your location list, you can now press the three-dot button to get directions or send a message to any contact. That's much better than the hidden swipe gesture we had before. There was also an odd text select bug in the last version that made the action buttons invisible, but that appears to be fixed now.

After 2 years of Beta testing and development. The popular video player, VLC for Android has dropped the Beta tag and released its first Stable version on the Play Store. VLC version 1.0.0 brings a lot of Bug fixes, no new features have been added and it still missing the Chromecast streaming support.
