Nokia Here

Nokia HERE Maps is heading to Android, but can it compete with Google Maps ? Well, HERE marketing team showed us that its much better than Google Maps, Describing Google Maps offline mode is only "a glorified screenshot".

Google is an Internet company so offline mode was never much of a priority, while Nokia has been offering navigation software on its phones since less than 10 people had mobile Internet.

The video shows the Save for offline use feature of Google Maps and points out you can't plan new routes, hence the "screenshot" jab. Google Maps can at least reroute you while offline, which the video conveniently overlooks.

Good News for Android users, as Nokia HERE app is now Available for FREE on Google Play. What is HERE ?. Well, it's the famed mapping service that is still under Nokia's wing, which provides its users with completely offline navigation, has a wide array of available maps, up-to-date info for public transportation, as well as turn-by-turn voice guidance all of this free of charge.

Up until now, the app was only available for Samsung devices on one of Samsung's online app repositories. Apart from arriving on Google Play, HERE Beta also adds navigation support for plenty of new countries (Algeria, Angola, Bangladesh, Burkina Faso, Côte d'Ivoire, Cyprus, Iraq, Libya, Mauritania, Mauritius, Nepal, Paraguay, Saint Helena, Senegal, Sri Lanka, Suriname, Zambia, Zimbabwe), though these countries have not been fully-mapped just yet.

Google is making good on its promise at the Google IO few months ago, as they have announced that offline navigation and search is finally rolling out today.

Google said on today that Google Maps now supports full navigation, even when you don't have an Internet connection. "Whereas before you could simply view an area of the map offline, now you can get turn-by-turn directions, search for specific destinations, and find useful information about places, like hours of operation and contact information or ratings." That means the next time you're in a area without internet connect, you won't need to worry about not getting the map and search information you need.

"By default, we'll only download areas to your device when you are on a Wi-Fi connection to prevent large data fees," Google product manager Amanda Bishop wrote in a blog post.

First previewed during Google I/O in May, the new Maps feature-which includes reviews and opening hours-is slowly rolling out to Android users, and should arrive soon on iOS.

"Over time, we'll be introducing even more offline features to help you find your way-even when you can't find a connection," Amanda Bishop wrote.

Google Maps has now become the go-to application when it comes to finding path and exploring locations. Last week Google released new features like offline navigation and search to strengthen its foothold in mapping apps. But, all the netizens don't have access to this feature from the very beginning. You are in luck, if you are in India. Starting from today offline navigation feature will be made available in India. You will easily be able to roam around the town without any internet connection.

Although Google Maps already had this kind of feature to help users download maps of some locations, it was pretty complex. With this new feature, users will be able to download maps for cities, states and countries. This is indeed a great step ahead. This will be of great help to people who would like to save data and battery charge while hitting the road with Google Maps. Also in the emerging markets, people often struggle with slow internet connection and road warriors frequently travel with no connection. So that's a big relief.

That's what got the world excited when the search giant unveiled this feature for the first time at Google I/O. In fact, some users started using other apps because of this offline mapping feature. It is not always feasible to use data every time someone goes to any place.

Do you use Google Maps? If you do, then you must have felt at some point while navigating with its help that it would have been great if the app could direct you to the nearest gas station while en-route to your office. Well, we won't have to wait for that any longer as Google finally adds the ability for a user to add multiple stops while setting a destination in the Google Maps (v9.31) app.

What this means is that swinging by that pizza shop or the pharmacy while going back home from work should now be even easier because Google Maps will point you in the right direction and show you more options for you to choose from while setting the waypoints and the destination. The best part is, that there's no limit on the number of stops that you can set in between your starting point and your final destination.

In order to add waypoints, set a destination first and then select Add Stop from the overflow menu. Once you have set them, the order in which you want to reach each stop can also be rearranged by holding and dragging the waypoints. The stops themselves will appear as letters of the English alphabet. It should be noted though that this feature has been a part of the desktop version for a long time now and it is a bit surprising that it took Google so long to bring it to Android devices.

Android apple

This is not a Prank or April's fool, it's a REAL thing.... A giant Green Android Robot urinating on the Apple logo appears on Google Maps, Go to this Link HERE and view Google Maps of "Rawalpindi, Pakistan" and you'll see the photo above.

We don't know who approved this photo from Google Maps Team... but it looks funny as hell. Also, note that the photo only appears in the traditional map view, and we'd hurry up if we were you. We doubt it'll be up there for very long.

The biggest change in this release can be found buried in the settings screen, about half-way down the list. There's now a 'Navigation settings' menu with options to control the default voice level and if the map should be automatically tilted.

The volume of spoken directions can be left at the standard level, or turned either softer or louder. There's no explicit control over how much volume is modified in either direction, but it's better than what was there. Tilt map is a little more interesting, as it dictates if the navigation view will default to a direct top-down perspective or at an angle.
