Latest News - / Samsung Updates - Posts

One may think that the Galaxy S7 might just be taking up all the attention from Samsung, but the Korean manufacturer is proving that they have not forgotten about their last year's flagship models yet. The most recent reminder of that came in the form of an update for the S6 Edge+ which started upgrading the smartphone's base Android version from lollipop to Marshmallow. Customers in India and France started tweeting about this, soon after the updates officially started to roll out to the respective customers in the two countries.

As seen before, the update is about 1.3GB in size and is available over-the-air (OTA). Significant improvements in fingerprint detection, Quick Connect operations, battery performance and overall user experience are expected to make its way to the Samsung smartphone with this important upgrade. If you have not yet received a notification about it, then do not fret as it can never arrive on all the smartphones at the same time. You can always check for it though, by going to Settings>About device>Download Updates. If it has already arrived, then choose whether to do it right then or later. As an alternative, you can also schedule the update in such a way the entire process completes itself while you are asleep during the night.

According to reports, Sprint continues to provide good news to its customers. Just earlier, they had officially started to roll out the Android M update for the Galaxy Note 5 and if that was not enough, they have also started to roll out the same update for their version of the older Galaxy Note 4 as well. It is a good gesture on Sprint's part to release both updates on the same date, showing that they have not forgotten their customers from 2014.

This update will come to your Galaxy Note 4 in a 1.4GB package and will upgrade your smartphone to Android version 6.0.1 post installation. The firmware version should also change to N910PVPU4DPC1, complete with March 1 Android Security Patch. Although one will have to wait to find out in exact details, it can be said safely that most of Android Marshmallow's improvements and added features will make it to the Note 4 as well.

Do not worry if you have not received the notification yet as this will take a bit of time before it reaches all of the smartphones in the country. Nonetheless, the official declaration confirms that all Sprint customers will get it on their Note 4. If you want to check right now, go to Settings>About device>Check for Software Update. If you see the Download Now option, tap on it and follow the instructions. If not, then just wait a while and you will be notified of the update as soon as it arrives on your phone.

If you live somewhere besides South Korea and you own last year's Samsung Galaxy Note 5, then it might surprise you a little that the stylus powered smartphone is getting its second Android M update in South Korea. While it is natural for Samsung to release the updates first in their own nation, it is harsh to see that they are releasing a second update based on Android 6.0.1 in South Korea while their customers in many of the other areas are still stuck with Android Lollypop 5.1.1 on their Note 5 smartphones.

According to reports, the initial update to Android M did not go very smoothly for South Korean users. There were complaints of fast battery drain, incompatibility with Samsung's own Gear VR headset and general bugs in day to day usage. This update to build number N920LKLU2BPB2 will supposedly address those problems. It has already been made available for download from all the main carriers in South Korea. Although it is a good gesture from Samsung to release a major update on such short notice, their customers from certain other parts of the world may feel a bit disappointed at not getting the same level of attention.

We will keep you posted as soon as we hear more about when Android M is coming to the Galaxy Note 5 in other geographical locations around the world.

If your Galaxy S6 Edge, S6 Edge+ or Note 5 is under contract from Telus, then your Samsung smartphone has probably not yet received its Android 6.0 Marshmallow update. It seems like the carrier is experiencing certain issues which are impeding them from releasing the latest updates for these smartphones on time. This was the most obvious observation after we came to know that the scheduled dates for releasing the Android M updates have been delayed.

Earlier, the scheduled date for releasing the latest Marshmallow updates for the Galaxy S6 Edge was March 16, but it has now been changed to March 30. That's a two week delay, which might disappoint quite a few customers who had been waiting for it eagerly. On the other hand, the Galaxy Note 5 as well as the S6 Edge+ were scheduled for the same on March 9, but will start receiving the updates on March 13. Customers will definitely find this gap of four days more tolerable than the two weeks delay for the S6 Edge.

The original S6 was scheduled to be the last smartphone in the S6 series to receive Android marshmallow from Telus on April 13, and as far as we know, that date has not been changed yet.
