Samsung recently started rolling out the February's security update to all of the unlocked devices of the Galaxy S5, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 edge, Galaxy S6 edge+, Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note 5 present across Asia, Australia, Europe, North America and South America.

This update is exactly like the firmware that Google released for its Nexus series at the very beginning of February. It primarily resolves the 10 security loopholes and 7 major vulnerabilities present in the Android operating system. It also packs a dedicated patch for the buggy Qualcomm Wi-Fi drivers and a solution for a major error that could have facilitated remote access to the smartphone by sending a simple text message.

Sadly, the South Korean tech giant was not able to publish the complete change log for this update as there are issues present in the software which might not have been exploited by hackers till now. They might try to attempt to exploit those security issues before the patch reaches the devices. If you are using one of the devices listed above and interested in finding out whether the update is available for your particular unit or not, then jump into Settings, go to About Device and finally tap Check for Updates.

When something nice happens, it happens more than once! Although it might not fully correct when it comes to Samsung, they have started shipping Android 6.0.1 update to the Galaxy Note 5, right after the announcement of the worldwide release of the update for the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge. Right now it can be availed in Cambodia (for the SM-N920C) with build number N920CXXU2BPB6. It is activated via Samsung Smart Switch. They will notify the devices via OTA (Over-the-air) software distribution technology.

A sneak peek was given to the mobile enthusiasts about the Marshmallow operating on the Galaxy Note 5. It is safe to say that the final release won't vary drastically. Some of the new features like Doze mode, Google Now on Tap, a brand new internet browser developed by Samsung (with option to block ads) and couple of other features will be made available. A new design for the status bar and notification area are also expected. Performance wise the Note 5 will be improved.

Follow the steps given below to get the update manually: Settings » About device » Software update menu

Samsung most probably won't be upgrading your Samsung Galaxy S4 to Android 6.0 or 6.0.1 Marshmallow. At this point third party developers are making efforts to find a solution. In this article we'll go through some of the methods that would help users to update their device, irrespective of device maker's official Android support. The first of option is the widely adopted - CyanogenMod 13. The second option is also a kind of advanced ROM flashing scenario. The final way to upgrade the Galaxy S4 is mostly a virtual solution.

CyanogenMod downloads section has listed a bunch of collection of CyanogenMod 13 OS builds for all of the Samsung Galaxy S4 variants released till now. In case you are confused about the files available for this update, don't try to flash them to your device.

While the solution listed above utilizes CyanogenMod's special look at Android OS, the next solution is based on AOSP, the Android Open Source Project, and it is an elementary version of the new Android. It is named as AICP and lets you upgrade to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow in Samsung Galaxy S4

Last solution is the Google Now Launcher. This launcher completely replaces the Samsung launcher, which was in-built in the smartphone.

Given below are the inclusions in the new Google Launcher:

• Vertical and faster scrolling of A-Z apps list
• One place to search for apps installed in the device and new ones on the Play Store right from the A-Z list.
• App Suggestions utilizes on-device intelligence to show the apps you're searching for in the top of the list.
• Enlarged folders which can have more than one page.
• Newly added Android Marshmallow Wallpapers.

Samsung Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 edge are the two devices for which the Samsung was recruiting beta testers last month owing to the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update in South Korea and the UK. The Marshmallow upgrade was swiftly rolled out to all those who opted to become beta testers. It seems the Android 6.0 beta upgrade is also getting shipped to some of the Galaxy Note 5 (AT&T carrier) variants in the US.

Supposedly, the Korean giant chose only 200 testers with AT&T's Galaxy Note 5, and couple of them got an email with detailed instructions on installation of the beta update via the company's official app. Now, some of the testers are also getting the Android 6.0 beta upgrade for their Galaxy Note 5 (SM-N920A). This upgrade is a package of delight for some of the unhappy Galaxy Note 5 buyers.

Upgraded Galaxy Note 5 variants show build number as MMB29K.N920AUCU2BPB1 and a build date of Kernel as February 2, 2016. The file size of this update is 1355.94MB, which packages Android security packaged released in February. The UI matches the look and feel of the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge's Marshmallow test version.

There is no information about refinement and new features of the S Pen till now. We'd be happy to learn more about the battery life, performance and new features present in this update, if you are one those who has received it.
