Another Live Photo of the LG G Watch. The soon to be released smartwatch based on Google's new Android Wear platform has been spotted out and about once more, this time as it lies flat on a wooden surface with a charging cable (microUSB) connected to it. It's got a rubber band in this incarnation, as you can see.

The watch is asking its owner to install the Android Wear app on her or his smartphone first, so it looks like that will be a requirement for using Android Wear devices.

The G Watch is expected to become fully official next week during Google's I/O 2014 developer conference. The wearable will apparently be sold through Google's Play Store, it's been recently revealed. It should be out in Europe this month, and elsewhere on July,1st. It will be priced at €199 in Europe, and presumably $199 in the US.

Samsung has pushed an update to its original smartwatch, Galaxy Gear converts it to Tizen OS and puts it on par with its successors. However, the new operating system (firmware v2.2 on the Galaxy Gear) introduces little changes to the actual user interface, so you won't need to get acquainted to it again.

What the update does bring is a standalone music player so you no longer need your phone when you go out for a run. It will also improve the battery life as Tizen has been found to be easier on the hardware than Android.

To apply the update you'll need to connect your Gear to your PC and use the Kies software. It will wipe all your data, so make sure to backup any valuable files you might have before proceeding.

Samsung has introduced three new Gear devices alongside the Galaxy S5 flagship smartphone. The Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo are Tizen-based smartwatches, while the Gear Fit is more of an enhanced smartband running a proprietary OS.

LG is still keeping the G Watch shrouded in mystery. Its key specifications aren't disclosed just yet, as the company awaits the first Android Wear devices to debut at this year's Google I/O.

This leaves the G Watch's features open to speculation and according to industry sources cited by a Korean media outlet, the watch is going to feature a USIM module allowing it to place calls. Not surprisingly, the report suggests LG U+ carrier will be the first to release the G Watch in South Korea.

LG UK has confirmed that the G Watch will launch by July with a price tag of less than €220. The specs of the watch that LG has disclosed include a 1.65" screen with 280 x 280 pixel resolution, 512MB RAM and 4GB of built-in storage. It is speculated that the G Watch will be the foundation of Googe's very own Nexus smartwatch, but we'll have to wait until June 25 for Google I/O to kick off and find out.

According to a Wall Street Journal report, Samsung confirmed to be working on a new Smartwatch that will NOT require a Smartphone to pair with, instead, it will have a standalone network connectivity with a nano-SIM card slot, its a step forward from being just a notification device to a fully functional phone.

WDJ report say that Samsung's standalone smartwatch will be running Tizen OS and will be able to make and receive calls, and send emaild, all without the need to be tethered to a smartphone. It may not be named the "Solo", but it is certainly part of the Tizen-powered Samsung Gear lineup, rather than the Android-powered Galaxy Gear brand. The device will have other functionality that we've seen in the Gear line including GPS, Bluetooth, a camera, and a heart rate monitor.

Supposedly, Samsung is already in talks with wireless carriers in the US, South Korea, and Europe to help bring the device to market; and, Samsung is planning to announce the device in either June or July with a release possible for sometime over the summer. No word yet on pricing or specs.
