Latest News - / Samsung - Posts

Firstly, there's the news leaked by @evleaks which suggests that the upcoming Note 7 will sport a "Blue Coral" variant for the first time. More interestingly, @evleaks also confirmed that there will be an iris scanner on the Note 7, just as previous rumors had us believing for a long time.

Secondly, latest reports from China confirm a lot of the other hardware specifications that were expected to be a part of the Note 7. The next Note may indeed sport a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821/823 SoC, coupled with 6GB of RAM and a choice of internal storage that may range in between 64GB - 256GB. Of course, there will also be an Exynos variant of the smartphone that will sport the Exynos 8893 SoC instead of the Qualcomm chip.

Other expected features that were confirmed by the leak include a 5.7-inch 1440p (QHD) Super AMOLED panel, a 12-megapixel rear camera with dual-pixel phase detection, a 5-megapixel selfie cam, a SD-card slot and a fast charging battery with the capacity of 4,000mAh. Everything is expected to run smoothly on a fresh, minimalistic version of the TouchWiz UI, powered by Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 and not Android N, as rumoured previously. There's also the IP68 certification for water resistance and the first USB Type-C port from Samsung. Let's see how much of this matches up to the actual Galaxy Note 7 when it's released in August.

HDBlog has officially released a video which details a lot of the features that are going to be a part of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 7's UI. There is also an accompanying article about it, if you wish to read. There will of course, be a lot of difference between what you see over here and what Samsung will finally be releasing on their next Note device when it comes out in August, but this leak gives us a nice little preview nonetheless.

From what we see and know so far, Samsung is planning for a clean and polished look this time around with the UI and it might be more straightforward in approach than what we are used to seeing from the OEM. There is also the possibility of a new messenger being included in the new software to rival the iMessage app on Apple products.

A piece of warning though, the video and the accompanying article are both in Italian, so there's that! If you have a rooted smartphone and would like to try out the core applications, you will find the link to download and install them below. They include S-Note, S-Browser, the default video player, the default keyboard, voice recorder, calculator, etc.

Samsung may not only shift its headquarters from London, but it may just leave the United Kingdom altogether. As you can probably guess, if this happens, it would be a direct result of the UK leaving the European Union (aka Brexit). Of course, Europe as a market has not lately been as profitable as it used to be for Samsung. In the year 2013, Samsung boasted of a 21% share in the total mobile sales number throughout the entire continent. Things however, went downhill from there as that share stands at only 12.8% right now. Samsung also did not release the Galaxy Note 5 in Europe last year and had stopped selling cameras, camcorders and associated accessories in there altogether.

It is evident that Samsung isn't exactly making any headway in Europe to speak of, but couple that with the fact that Britain may now impose heavier import taxes on them and the decision to leave the UK starts to seem like an inevitable course for the Korean company. As the United Kingdom will no longer have to follow the tariff regulations and import duty models laid out by the Union, the general consensus is that taxes will now increase for all foreign companies operating within the nation.

As we reported earlier, there will probably be only one variant of the Galaxy Note 7 this year and it will have an Edge display. Although the specifications are more or less out by this point, we can never be sure until and unless we actually hear an official announcement on August 2. Nevertheless, here are the important bits from what we know about the upcoming Note so far.

CPU - Exynos 8890 (Overclocked) for Europe and Snapdragon 823 for the US

RAM - 6GB

Display - Quad High Definition (1440p) Super AMOLED Dual Edge display (5.8-inch curved screen)

Battery - 4,000mAh

Rear camera - The same 12-megapixel camera as seen on the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, but with better software

It may also sport a first of its kind iris scanner, an USB Type-C port and IP68 rating for water and dust resistance. There was and possibly still is a bit of confusion regarding the type of display that the upcoming Note will sport, but all major signs and reports indicate that only an Edge variant will be made available this year. Rumors about the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 have been going haywire recently and just a few days ago, one such rumor suggested that there will also be a flat screen variant of the upcoming device. This conclusion was based on the fact that the model number SM-N930F was allegedly seen on Samsung's own website. However, we saw no such indications in the leaked teaser image which we showed you earlier. The latest report published by SamMobile and informed by their source in South Korea, further stresses on the fact that Samsung is not going to market a flat screen Note 7 this year. According to them, there will be only one dual Edge curved screen variant of the device in 2016.

This decision was supposedly taken because the South Korean OEM is now trying to focus more on making profits than gaining market share. We like the Edge display more than the flat one and are behind this decision by Samsung. They add more functionality to the display and look just downright gorgeous. However, there is a large group of people who find the dual Edge impractical as there have been reports of the Edge display getting activated unwillingly, in spite of Samsung's palm rejection technology. What kind of a display would you like to see on the Samsung Galaxy Note 7?
