Samsung has recently shown a lot of responsibility and vigilance by updating even some of its three-year old handsets with the latest security patches and today we have similar news for a bunch of them. Check out the list below and see if your older Galaxy handset made it onto this list, or did it already receive the July security patch quite a while back.

• Galaxy S6 Edge Plus
• Galaxy Note Edge (China)
• Galaxy A5 2016
• Galaxy A5 2017

It is expected that along with Google's July security patch for the base Android OS, the OTA update will also bring some of Samsung's own little fixes for its smartphones' security loopholes. If you are wondering which firmware builds will be hitting the devices, check below for details.

Galaxy S6 Edge Plus - G928GUBS3CQG1
Galaxy Note Edge (China) - N9150ZCS1CQG1
Galaxy A5 2016 - A510FXXU4CQG1
Galaxy A5 2017 - A520FXXU2AQG6

In case you cannot see any available update yet, don't worry, it will be there soon.

The Galaxy Tab A 8.0 has already received the update and the premium Galaxy Tab S2 had received it even earlier. Unfortunately, the Galaxy Tab A 9.7 has been left unattended for a while now. The good news is that it's probably going to change very soon as Samsung will likely be dishing out Nougat to the Tab A 9.7 (SM-T550) in the coming weeks. We don't have any official confirmation regarding this but then again, when do we ever?

As is often the case with these reports, this one comes to us thanks to a leak on Wi-Fi Alliance, where the tablet was seen running on Nougat for Wi-Fi certification purposes. Any phone that is seen on the site running on a new firmware version, usually gets the firmware within the next few weeks. SamMobile is of the opinion that it should take anything between four to five weeks to be more precise, until the OTA package starts rolling out in Europe.

Courtesy of @OnLeaks and MySmartPrice, we have renders of the upcoming Google Pixel 2 on display here. The video shows off the Google Pixel 2 in beautiful 3D rendering and while it really does look light years ahead of the Google Pixel in terms of design, we couldn't help but notice that it's missing the 3.5mm audio jack. Do take a look at the video above and let us know what you think about this decision by Google, if it really does turn out to be the case of course.

Personally, I have never understood the logic behind removing the headphone jack from a smartphone and that is only because there is no logic behind it, just business. It costs next to nothing, doesn't interfere with any other functionality and is something that is preferred by a large section of the customer base. Even if you are all for the "wireless revolution," a headphone jack doesn't stop the smartphone from being compatible with wireless technology or the user from using wireless headphones if he/she wants to. It has more to do with business and marketing than actual usefulness because even if you could shave a few centimeters of a smartphone by eliminating the headphone jack, it hardly matters. Most people would rather have a headphone jack than a paper-thin phone!

Samsung is the global leader when it comes to smartphone sales and market share, but that doesn't mean it's the leader everywhere. Being the most populated and prospective nation in the world, China is now one of the biggest markets for smartphones in the entire world as well. In spite of seeming like the perfect match for each other, Samsung's hold over the local market in China has been reduced to a mere 3% at the end of Q2 2017; the lowest for the company in any other nation where it has a significant presence.

If you are wondering why it is so, there are two main factors at play here. Firstly, the political relationship between South Korea and China is not going very well at the moment. This has resulted in a number of customers rejecting Korea-made products In favor of products from local manufacturers like Xiaomi, Vivo, Oppo, Huawei and the like. Secondly, the competition from the local manufacturers is too steep for Samsung to match up with them under the current situation. In fact, Apple isn't doing too well in the country either as their share in the Chinese market dropped from 8.5% to 8.2% in just a year. Nevertheless, the American company is still doing a lot better than Samsung, given that their market dropped from 7% to just 3% at the end of Q2 2017 in a quarter-on-quarter comparison with 2016.
