LG Velvet is the first phone to take advantage of LG's rebranding initiative. Velvet was announced to be released on May 7 and now the company has confirmed its launch through an official Korean blog post. So, what's new about this phone? We know some detail on its specs due to its official teasers, but now the specs have been confirmed as well. LG velvet features a very minimalistic design. It has a large 6.8-inch OLED FHD+ display with a 20.5:9 aspect ratio. LG called their display Cinema Full vision display.

For the rear-side camera, the company decided to skip the latest trend of adding huge rectangular camera modules as Samsung and iPhone 11 are using. Instead, the camera features a new waterdrop triple camera design, which is inspired by the natural representation of the falling droplets of rain. The three camera lenses are placed vertically stack in descending order of size, with the flash at the bottom of the pile. The phone has display curves at the edges, which are rounded off and give an impression of a bigger display area. LG calls this the 3D arc design, which you may find similar to already existing designs.

LG Velvet rear camera system is pretty much standard and consist of primary, ultra-wide, and depth-sensor lens combination. The front side camera is 16MP and the rear cameras consist of ultra-wide, 8MP ultra-wide-lens, and standard primary camera. LG's phones mostly contain Sony's image sensors, so there's like a Sony IMX586. For video, the LG velvet includes a voice out a feature that can distinguish the ambient and background noises from videos.

The phone is powered by Snapdragon 765. The phone accessory includes a stylus pen that can be bought separately and doesn't come with the phone. To keep the phone running, LG put a 4,300mAh battery that is enough for whole day usage. It also comes with a low-power software algorithm that minimizes any unnecessary power consumption by shutting down background apps, not in use.

LG recently announced a new smartphone called LG velvet that is unlikely with the company releasing its devices with alphanumeric names. According to the company, they decided to use it in favor of familiar and expressive names that will help the consumer capture the essence of the device best suited for his or her personality. LG has released flagship phones over the past of couple years with names like G7, V40, the G8, the V50, the G8X, or the V60. The company appears to change a few things for an upcoming device and a completely new design language. LG describes this design language as a node to the natural world with a visual factor that differs from the industry trend.

The device will have a raindrop camera device with smaller lenses and an LED flash below the primary camera, a departure from the current trend among smartphones to have big camera bumps. LG is using a new 3D Arc Design with curves on the front and back of the phone, though it's not quite clear how or whether that would be different. Companies like Samsung and Xiaomi have also made similar claims before and raised expectations of the consumers before the launch of the phone that proved to be the wrong marketing strategy later on.

As per the Korean news portal, LG will be launching its new phone on May 15 with a brand new design. The phone use Qualcomm's mid-range smartphone 765 with integrated network support for 5G and target a more affordable price tag. Unlike the bulky camera bumps that usually appear on the back of the smartphone, the LG velvet features a series of descending lenses, which take less space. The three lenses start in the upper left corner of the LG velvet and descend by size - an effect that LG describes as a natural representation of evoking falling raindrops.

LG is a big name when it comes to home appliances but its mobile division seems to stay behind than other departments. The company is trying to working according to emerging marketing demands. To do so, LG has planned to shift its focus from flagship smartphones to mid-range premium phones and mass-tier 5G products. This assumed to attract budget-conscious consumers and deal with the competition due to Chinese rival mobile phone manufacturers at the same time. Rumors also suggested that LG might completely drop its flagship smartphone series in favor of less expensive series. Earlier this week we came to know through rumors that LG is planning on releasing the series by the mid of next month, and now the company has shared an update on the design of its new device.

LG recently released a press, not on the upcoming device that will feature a design that uses the company's new design inspired by nature. Instead of having a large rectangular shaped camera bump on the rear side of the device, which is slowly becoming the norm, the upcoming LG devices will feature a raindrop camera module. The smartphone will feature three camera lenses, with the cameras arranged vertically in descending order by size along with the LED flash. The new camera is meant to look like the falling raindrops, with the primary camera sitting slightly above the surface, while the other two camera lenses sit completely flush with the back glass.

Along with the nature-inspired camera module, the upcoming smartphone will feature the 3D Arch design, where the edges of the front and back sides are symmetrically curved. According to the company, its new design facilitates the users to hold the device and will provide more natural experience as compared to other devices in the past. In a statement regarding the new design approach, the company's head for the Mobile Communications Design Lab, Cha Yong-Duk, was quoted saying, "Our upcoming smartphone will draw on the rich history of classic LG design which has always been distinctive at first touch. This handset will be a first-look at the competitive edge we will be bringing to every LG smartphone going forward."

LG has been silent for some time but recently it launched a new phone, the LG V60 ThinQ after a long time now. LG was scheduled to launch the phone at MWC 2020, but since the event got canceled due to coronavirus, the company decided to announce the online press release, instead of holding an event at an alternative day or place. The phone that was once supposed to be the LG G9 ThinQ has now been revealed to be the LG V60 ThinQ.

The flagship smartphone has to compete with the Samsung Galaxy series, as it is launched around the time Samsung decides to release the Galaxy S series. The V60 ThinQ is a premium handset with the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor. It is a big phone with a 6.8-inch display and has a 5000mAh battery that allows your phone to last for a whole day. The device also has a dual-screen accessory like the last year's device and LG G8X ThinQ. There are a few interesting decisions that LG made with the hardware as well. The phone is made of Gorilla Glass 5 and has an 83.1% screen-to-body ratio. The phone has 8GB RAM and 128GB storage that is expandable using the microSD card slot. The device has a 5,000mAh battery and comes with fast wireless charging.

For security, the device has an in-display fingerprint sensor. The device has 64MP primary sensor, 1/1.72″, 0.8-micron, f/1.8, 78-degree FOV, OIS, Dual Pixel PDAF, pixel binning to 16MP with 1.6-micron effective pixel size. The second camera is a 13MP ultra-wide angle sensor, 1/3.4″, 1.0-micron, f/1.9, 117-degree FOV, Dual Pixel PDAF. LG V60 ThinQ can record video up to 8K at 26fps, or 4k at 60fps. The 4k video recording comes with a time-lapse and AI time-lapse feature. There is also an option for video bokeh and portrait. The front camera is 10MP, 1/3.1″, 1.22-micron, f/1.9, 72.5-degree FOV. LG is teasing its new smartphone in a video right now. The 20-second trailer video shows a game mockup being played on a smartphone that features a small controller icon and a camera, before a second screen folds out and displays a map with a route to the company's IFA press conference. And when the device closes a third smaller screen appears on its front, which displays time and date of LG's presentation event. The attachment comes with a 6.2-inch display panel. It uses two pinks to connect to the device, while a third pin allows it to transfer the data back to the phone.

LG has already presented something similar earlier this year during the phone's reveal at MWC event - LG ThinQ's. It had a second screen accessory. However, the detachable accessory was never launched in the US. It didn't have the additional screen attached to its exterior, which appears to be a new concept for this version. Apart from supporting a Dual Screen attachment like its predecessor, the phone is likely to have 5G support as well. The V60 ThinQ's main Android rival will be the Samsung Galaxy Note 10, which is set to debut at an Unpacked event in New York today.

Beyond what was displayed in the video, we don't know much about the device. Not even its name. Android Police and ZDNet both speculate that the device could end up being an accessory for a potential V60 ThinQ, The device isn't foldable for certain, which a few manufacturers have been rolled out. Instead of a folding screen, both the V50 ThinQ's accessory and this new announced smartphone appear to feature two different screens which can be attached to hinge. The screen definitely don't bend like foldable device. LG's IFA 2019 press conference is currently scheduled for September 6th at 10AM in Berlin (4AM ET).
