bote 10.1 2015

The last Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 was released over a year ago and it's time for another one. References to a Galaxy Note 10.1 (2015) have appeared on Samsung's official site, specifically that three apps support the tablet. And it's not a typo either, the Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014) is listed as well. Not that it's a big surprise that Samsung will be reprising one of its models.

We can speculate, of course, at this point a 64-bit processor is not unlikely and it's an easy guess that the new tablet will incorporate the improvements in the S Pen of the Galaxy Note 4. Whether Samsung sticks to LCD or makes the switch to Super AMOLED (based on the Galaxy Tab S 10.5 screen) remains to be seen.

The second last Developer Preview for the next Android OS has been released and after the next one, the final build will be made available to smartphone manufacturers all over the world. So what new features does Android N Developer Preview 4 bring to the table? Let us take a look at some of them.

Performance

Android N will allow for better graphics in games and 3D apps, with the help of the Vulkan 3D Graphics API. As the API puts less pressure on the processor than OpenGL, we expect app developers to be able to provide better details in terms of graphics than ever before.

The JTI Compiler on the other hand, will make installing apps 75% faster! Not to mention, the compiled code size will also be decreased into half of what it is right now.

Productivity

Direct Reply will allow you to reply to messages and emails from the notification bar itself. The user will also be able to long-press a notification to bring up various interactive options.

The Daydream platform, along with the Daydream headset will offer brand new VR capabilities to Android users.

There's an improved multitasking experience bundled in, along with an upgraded multitasking menu, complete with a Clear All option.

If you like Emojis, Google has packed in 72 new ones (Unicode) and 9 realistic glyphs with variable skin tones.

Android N will finally support split-screen by default on both Android smartphones and TV sets.

Doze Now will be saving the phone's battery, even while the display is off.

Security

Android N brings in new security features through file-based encryption, framework hardening and regular updates. What is amazing is that the new update system will operate on two system images. It will allow the phone to download and install updates in the background, without disabling the phone during the update process. The updated image file will come into action as soon as you restart your phone.

These are just some of the many new updates that are brought into the fray by the Developer Preview 4 and we are sure that many more are yet to come. By the way, If you tap repeatedly (7 times to be precise) on the version name in the Android N Developer version 4 from the Settings menu, you will see the name displayed as "Namey McNameFace." This is of course a joke, so rest easy!

There is no doubt about the potential that VR holds for the future of entertainment and now some of the biggest names in the business have joined forces in order to initiate the largest promotional campaign for VR till date. The Global Virtual Reality Association or GVRA comprises of Facebook Oculus, HTC Vive, Sony Interactive Entertainment, Google, Acer Starbreeze and of course, Samsung.

The group will be responsible for developing, as well as setting software and hardware standards for everything related to the virtual reality business. The campaign is set forward to not only standardize and control the VR market, but also to make VR more popular, attractive, useful and consumer friendly all around the world. As most of the major players in the business have now united (barring a few like Microsoft) under one organization, research and development will probably reach new heights faster than ever before. However, it will be interesting to see if they can make the technology more appealing and affordable for the general masses all around the globe.

Onlie-pokies-australia

The company name, the app name, and major keywords in the description are the way that most people begin their search for a desired mobile application.  Let's look at the example of a company that wants to create an app that connects to a website for online casino Australia no deposit bonus gaming. The linked-to page provides the following description:

MUCH MORE THAN POKIES

Our list of Aussie Casinos provides much more than pokies.  As far as games are concerned, Australian online casinos have many excellent table games, video poker, casual games and more.

Aussie casinos online have daily, weekly, monthly, and continuing promotions that focus on the gaming needs of Aussie players.

The best Aussie casinos run many tournaments.  Most of the tournaments are in pokies, of course.  You can also compete in blackjack, baccarat, and even bingo tournaments at some Aussie online casinos.

Scratch, scratch, scratch ... what is a "pokie"?  As a person coming from the US, the first thoughts that come to my mind is the clown show that is currently going on in the US Senate.  Some of those guys are acting like a bunch of pokies who are behaving as though they are putting on a testosterone show rather than the serious business of conducting government.  Is the website taking bets on if Trump is going to be impeached? Or is the website taking bets on who the next US President going to be? But since it is a website targeting Australian customers, I don't think that is the case.

So I looked up the term pokie in an online urban dictionary.  This what is returned.

Different definitions of the word Pokie

Pokie definition 1

a nipple that seeps through a shirt, t-shirt, dress, cloth. Generally most visible when nipples are hard, excited.

Pokie definition 2

A west Indian word for pussy.

Pokie definition 3

Another word for prison, slammer

Pokie definition 4

Another word for a cigarette.

Pokie definition 5

something used for packing down the contents of a joint.

Pokie definition 6 (definition we are looking for)

in Australia, definitely a Poker Machine, but we rarely use the word 'Poker' to describe someone who uses (or abuses) a Pokie. nor do we say 'go for a poke' which sounds more like a sexual connotation over here ;) most often used in the plural, Pokies.

What is the moral of this story?

The moral of the story is that not only do you have to have an understanding of the words in your title in your main target audience, you have also need to have an understanding of the word in other cultures as well.

What are some other things to consider when picking out a good name?

The first consideration is the number of words.  The more words that your app or business name has, the harder it is going to be for somebody to understand, remember, and tell other people.  Most experts recommend using one or two words. If more than two words are used, the additional words should be a short word.

  • BornToSell

  • ToysRUs

The second consideration is the number of syllables.  This affects how well people remember the business name and how they remember it when they hear it again.

  • One word name - 4 syllables

  • Two words - 4 syllables total

  • More than two words - 1 syllable per word

The third consideration is the number of characters.  The more characters your business name has, the harder it will be for people to read and remember.  Not to mention, when you start having to write email addresses or sub-levels of website pages, the name can become very long to type.  So how many characters is too much?

  • Invented name - 7 characters

  • Keyword name - 15 characters

Summary

Google Play has 2.9 million apps.  An estimate of the number of websites in 2020 is 1,744,517,326 websites.  So trying to come up with a unique name that is not too many syllables, does not have too many characters, and is not going to mean something unexpected in another country, starts becoming more and more difficult as each year goes by.

But I guess that is why marketing companies make the big bucks that they make.

Samsung galaxy tab 18.4

Rumores around a gigantic Samsung tablet with 18.4-inch screen is circling around, its existence was the only thing revealed. Latest reports suggests that this tablet is real and set to launch before the end of this year.

The device is called Samsung Galaxy Tab 18.4 with model number (SM-T670), it's not clear yet what Galaxy Tab family this tablet will be included in (Galaxy Tab 5, Galaxy Tab S or Galaxy TabPRO). What we know so far that it will pack a 18.4-inch TFT LCD touch screen (not sAMOLED) with just 1080p resolution (which is only about 120ppi pixel density, very low). The tablet should also sport the Exynos 7580 SoC with a 1.6 GHz octa-core CPU, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of expandable storage, an 8MP rear camera, a 2.1 MP front-facing unit, and a 5700mAh battery.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 18.4 will launch with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop out-of-the-box, and its dimensions are said to be 451.8 x 275.8 x 11.9 mm. There's currently no telling when we'll see it in stores, or how much it will cost. Though with that size we assume this will be targeted at some pretty niche use-cases.

Souce

It seems just yesterday that we were all excited about the name which Google would be giving to Android N 7.0, and now it's almost time for Android O 8.0 to be named now! According to reliable sources in the industry, Google will be declaring the name of the next iteration of the Android OS on August 21, although it has probably already been decided. Nevertheless, that will be the date on which that name will be made public and we will finally get to know if Oreo is indeed what Google has decided to go with this year. If you have any guesses, let us know in the comments.

On the other hand, the final version of the OS has been delayed from release for at least a few weeks now. If you are wondering what the reason is for the delay, we have no information on that and neither does anyone else. Nevertheless, it isn't hard to guess that the OS must need some last second ironing. Even then, the delay shouldn't push the release back further than mid-September.

LG velvet

LG recently announced a new smartphone called LG velvet that is unlikely with the company releasing its devices with alphanumeric names. According to the company, they decided to use it in favor of familiar and expressive names that will help the consumer capture the essence of the device best suited for his or her personality. LG has released flagship phones over the past of couple years with names like G7, V40, the G8, the V50, the G8X, or the V60. The company appears to change a few things for an upcoming device and a completely new design language. LG describes this design language as a node to the natural world with a visual factor that differs from the industry trend.

The device will have a raindrop camera device with smaller lenses and an LED flash below the primary camera, a departure from the current trend among smartphones to have big camera bumps. LG is using a new 3D Arc Design with curves on the front and back of the phone, though it's not quite clear how or whether that would be different. Companies like Samsung and Xiaomi have also made similar claims before and raised expectations of the consumers before the launch of the phone that proved to be the wrong marketing strategy later on.

As per the Korean news portal, LG will be launching its new phone on May 15 with a brand new design. The phone use Qualcomm's mid-range smartphone 765 with integrated network support for 5G and target a more affordable price tag. Unlike the bulky camera bumps that usually appear on the back of the smartphone, the LG velvet features a series of descending lenses, which take less space. The three lenses start in the upper left corner of the LG velvet and descend by size - an effect that LG describes as a natural representation of evoking falling raindrops.
