Today, Wall Street Journal reports that Microsoft will make an investment in, the Android ROM developer company, Cyanogen Inc. The Redmond giant is expected to become a minority investor in a $70 million round of equity financing.
The latest round of funding is said to value Cyanogen Inc. in the high hundreds of millions. Spokespeople from both Microsoft and Cyanogen Inc. declined to comment on the matter.
Cyanogen made quite a splash a few days ago when the company's CEO Kirt McMaster told an audience in San Francisco that the company wants to take Android away from Google. The ambitious startup plans to create a version of Android, which isn't dependent on Google Play apps and services.
Microsoft launched its first Smart augmented reality Glass, called "HoloLens" few days ago along with Windows 10. This augmented reality kit has its own computing power, rivaling that of current laptops, and spacial sound technology for holographic processing, able to understand what you are looking at, understand your voice, and run without any wires, processing terabytes of information in real time. No phone is required, no PC connection, and, as we mentioned, no cables even, which is really crazy.
The Holo Studio was also announced a platform that allows you to create for the new Windows Holographic experience and the HoloLens device in a jiffy. The demonstration showed a quad-copter being imagined and created with Holo Studio, then 3D-printed as a physical object. Wired magazine sat down with Microsoft's CEO Satya Nadella, and featured the cool new products and services developed under his supervision long and hard, but what attracted our attention were the details about HoloLens.
Microsoft is apparently planning to roll the headgear to influential opinion-makers at first, the kind of folks that would give TED talks, for instance, and engage the ever-critical development community to take a long and hard look at what can be done with the holographic abilities of HoloLens, only then rolling them out to retail, so that your kid can play 3D Minecraft with their buddies. Reports suggests that Microsoft is working on a New Internet Browser for Windows 10, Moving from the good-old bad-old Internet Explorer to the new Microsoft Spartan Browser. The New "Spartan" browser is still in-development. Today though there are a couple of new leaked images doing the rounds, and these two show us a very different design for Spartan.
The actual leaked images are the first two below. Underneath you can see a mockup based on them, which is supposedly a near 1:1 replica of the browser's UI.
Thankfully this time around Spartan looks a lot more modern, yet it still manages to be quite minimalistic. The browser clearly looks more like Chrome and Firefox than IE, and not many will say that's a bad thing. Next to the star for bookmarking purposes lies a "reading mode" button which strips out the text and makes whichever page you're on more readable (this is similar to Safari's Reader Mode).
The share icon lets you easily send a link to the current website through social networks or by email, and the three dots on the right are there to open up the settings, as you may have guessed. Spartan's window is borderless, allowing content to stretch from edge to edge. All of the UI elements are at the top.
Android Kitkat brought many storage problems and headache to the App developers, users complained about this many times and the only solution is to Root your phone to be able to transfer files from the Internal storage to the external storage (microSD cards). Google finally solved this problem with Lollipop.
Now with the release of the final version of Android 5.0 Lollipop, new APIs were added to allow apps to request full access to directories owned by other providers. These APIs have been improved to offer more capabilities than before, and they do it in a very user-friendly and secure way. You'll no longer have to Root your phone to access/modify your microSD data.

Richer access to secondary shared storage devices
In KitKat we introduced APIs that let apps read/write file in app-specific directories on secondary storage devices, such as SD cards.
We heard loud and clear that developers wanted richer access beyond these directories, so in Lollipop we added the new ACTION_OPEN_DOCUMENT_TREE intent.
Apps can launch this intent to pick and return a directory from any supported DocumentProvider, including any of the shared storage supported by the device.
Apps can then create, update, and delete files and directories anywhere under the picked tree without any additional user interaction. Just like the other document intents, apps can persist this access across reboots.
This gives apps broad, powerful access to manage files while still involving the user in the initial selection process.
Users may choose to give your app access to a narrow directory like "My Vacation Photos," or they could pick the top-level of an entire SD card; the choice is theirs.
Microsoft Office 365 subscribers will receive unlimited OneDrive cloud storage going forward. OneDrive subscription plans that include the sweet cloud storage option kick off at $6.99 per month.
The new arrangement will begin rolling out to users with Home, Personal, and University accounts beginning today. OneDrive for Business customers will have to wait until 2015 to get the treatment. Unlimited cloud storage is bound to make the already capable Microsoft Office 365 an even more attractive proposition.
