Microsoft is suing Samsung for $6.9 million, which the software giant says is unpaid interest that is owed to it by Samsung. The latter apparently felt that Microsoft's purchase of Nokia's Devices and Services unit was a breach of contract. The contract called for Microsoft to be paid a royalty for each Android phone and tablet produced by the Korean manufacturer over the course of a year.
While Samsung did eventually pay the $1 billion it owed Microsoft last year, the crew in Redmond said that the payment was late, and as a result it is owed the $6.9 million in interest on the $1 billion. The deal was agreed to back in 2011 and runs for seven years. It also includes a cross-licensing pact between the two firms.

Microsoft has purchased gaming company Mojang, the creators of Minecraft, for the cool $2.5 billion. The company shares that its partnership with the game maker began when the two discussed the Xbox One version of the game.
Since Minecraft's launch in 2009, it has been downloaded by more than 100 million users. As Xbox boss Phil Spencer states, Microsoft will continue to make Minecraft available across non-PC and Xbox platforms, such as iOS, Android and PlayStation.
"Minecraft quickly became the top online game on Xbox Live, with over two billion hours played on Xbox 360 in the last two years. That working relationship set the ground work for other opportunities," he added.
Minecraft creator Markus Notch Persson allegedly doesn't want to deal with such a large and global project that Minecraft has become for the past 5 years. That's one of the reasons he, as the majority stakeholder of the company, wanted to sell it. The rest of the co-makers of the game, Carl, and Jakob, are also leaving the company.
The Apple Watch is arriving early 2015 in three versions Watch, Watch Sport and Watch Edition. The Watch Sport is going to cost $349 as Apple announced last week, but according to long-time Apple analyst John Gruber, the Gold Watch Edition version could retail for as much as $4,999.
The reason for the high price tag is that Apple is manufacturing the Watch Edition with solid 18-karat gold. It's not plated or coated. This kind of affair in watchmaking comes at a cost.
According to Gruber, at the very least, the Watch Edition is going to retail at $1,999. However, that's as optimistic as he's willing to go. He even goes on to compare the Apple Watch Edition to the more "affordable" Rolex watches stating that the $5,000 price tag isn't as ridiculous as it might initially appear.
The anticipated Apple Watch is expected sometime this spring, but in-depth information about certain versions of the wearable is already circulating in the air. A recent piece of info about the most exquisite variation of the wearable, the 42mm gold-plated Edition one, claims to reveal how much gold it will come with.
From the looks of it, the luxurious Apple Watch will pack a 29.16 grams of 18-karat gold. As per the current prices of gold, the Apple Watch Edition will come with $853.82 worth of gold. This is an approximate estimation, based on the notion that the average wall thickness of the watch case will be 1.15mm; the additional parts of the watch, such as the crown, the number markers, dials, and other parts of the gadget.
So, if just the watch case costs around $900 to make, how much will the Apple Watch Edition cost, exactly? It's about $1600 and will be here this April.
Where's smoke there must be fire: Google's next Nexus tablet is coming and it will arrive under the Nexus 9 moniker with an official unveiling on October 15th and a release date on November 3rd, retailing for a price of $399, according to inside sources speaking for Brightsideofnews.com.
The Nexus 9 is expected to feature a very high resolution and be powered by Nvidia's Tegra K1 system chip. There's no clarity whether we'd see the quad-core 32-bit version of the K1 chip or the dual-core 64-bit version. We do know, however, that Nvidia dropped the following hint on its blog:
"And for hard-core Android fans, take note that we're already developing the next version of Android L on the 64-bit Tegra K1." - Nvidia
The higher, $399 price is also a bit of a surprise given that Google's last two 7-inch tablets were priced around the $200 price point, so this time around, it's clear that the company is gunning for a more high-end device.
Big day for all Google Nexus Fans worldwide, as Google Play Store starts to accept Pre-orders for the Moto Nexus 6. You can now pre-order your Nexus 6, a $649 gets you the 32GB model, and if that's not enough, you can spring for the 64GB version at $699. At least it's available for some people there appears to be a staggered rollout, and a lot of early buyers are seeing "out of inventory" pages for the 32GB version and "coming soon" for 64GB.
Both versions are available in white or blue. Shipping and taxes vary on speed and location; typically Play Store hardware is offered with ground, two-day, or next-day shipping options at increasing expense, though apparently they aren't leaving the warehouse until late in November. Nexus 6 buyers get 6 free months of Google Play All Access.
Google is already have its latest tablet, HTC Nexus 9, available for purchasing on Google Play Store but it's not available on all regions yet. Luckily for Nexus users in the Middle-East, the Google Nexus 9 is Now Available on the Middle-East, the tablet has launched in Qatar, UAE and Kuwait so far and is headed to more countries.
Middle-East users can now enjoy Google's latest Lollipop-tablet. X-cite, a major electronics retailers in Kuwait, is listing 2 variants of the HTC Nexus 9 with a price tag starts from $480 for the Black 16 GB 4G LTE and $580 for the White 32 GB 4G LTE variant. Nexus 9 is heading to more regions as Google tends to make it available worldwide.
Hot News from CES 2015 today, Sony is bringing back its old "Walkman" brand to the 2015 Android World. The new Walkman device is powered by Android OS and will be priced at $1,200.. which reduces the targeted market size.
Sony Walkman NW-ZX2 is as high-quality as a pocketable player gets it supports FLAC/ALAC (up to 96kHz/24-bit) and Bluetooth with SBC/LDAC hi-fidelity codec. Dual-band Wi-Fi is also available for DLNA playback. The player packs a massive 128GB or not so massive considering a single FLAC album is in the hundreds of megabytes, a full gigabyte even. There's a microSD card slot if you run out, but at an ultrabook price we were hoping for a bit more room out of the box.
The Sony Walkman officially runs Android on a 4" screen. The screen is not up to up to par with the audio capabilities. Not that the screen is a crucial part of a music player, but something better than 480 x 854px would have been appreciated.
Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean is also not our top pick. With the whole "will they, won't they" upgrade situation on phones, I don't even want to think what it's like to wait for a music player to be updated.
with a $1,200 Headphones are essential, otherwise the difference between FLAC and MP3 is imaginary. Just saying that you have to add several hundred dollars more if you want this Walkman player. At least it gets decent battery life 60 hours. If you listen to 128Kbps MP3s. If you want to use the player as intended and listen to FLAC, you get about half the battery life, 33 hours.
