Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime Value Edition Benchmark Scores Leaked

We reported before that Galaxy Grand Prime Value Edition will be released soon with Android 5.0.2 Lollipop Out-of-the-box. The Value Edition device was said to be powered by a Marvel PXA1908 chipset, instead of the Snapdragon 410 in the regular version. Well, apparently that isn't the case, and a Spreadtrum SC8830 SoC is to be found inside the new variant of the affordable 5-incher.

The Spreadtrum SC8830 relies on a quad-core Cortex-A7 processor, which in the case of the SGGPVE is clocked at up to 1.3GHz. The CPU is joined by a single gig of RAM, just like in the S410 version. It's not exactly up to the standard set by the Qualcomm chipset though, as the quick comparison below shows.

Here's the leaked benchmark scores of the Grand Prime VE, it scored 1054 points on GeekBench.

Sprint to launch Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime with Android 5.1 Lollipop on July 10th

We have reported before that Samsung is launching a new Grand Prime Value Edition device with Android 5.1 Lollipop Pre-installed. Sprint is launching this VE device this friday July,10th.

Grand Prime VE

The Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime features a 5-inch screen with a 540 x 960 qHD resolution. That works out to a pixel density of 220ppi. The 64-bit Snapdragon 410 SoC under the hood contains a quad-core 1.2GHz CPU and the Adreno 306 GPU. 1GB of RAM is inside along with 8GB of internal storage. Those requiring additional memory can access the 128GB capacity microSD slot. The back and front camera combo weighs in at 8MP/5MP, and the lights are kept on by a 2600mAh battery, Android 5.1.1 is pre-installed.

The phone comes with the Ultra Power Saving Mode. With 10% of the handset's battery life remaining, the feature closes down unnecessary apps and gives you an extra 24 hours to make/take phone calls and send/receive text messages.

The (SMG530H) update OTA package size is about 600MB in size (The whole firmware is about 730MB) packs Lollipop 5.0.2 which is a little out-dated from the Lollipop 5.1.1 that the (SM-G530P) and (SM-531H VE) is carrying. The new firmware has a build date of [October 09, 2015] and will bring an improved TouchWiz UI with Material Design, new notification panel, new lockscreen and lots of other features along with various bug fixes and performance improvements. Samsung Grand Prime Android 5.1 Lollipop Update in Final Testing status, Rolling-out Soon

We have published before a list of Mid-range devices that are confirmed to get the Android 5.0/5.1 Lollipop Update. Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime is included on this list, the device has been reported to receive the Android 5.1 Lollipop.

Today, we received reports from our sources confirms that the Android 5.1 Lollipop update for the Galaxy Grand Prime is on "Final Testing" process and it should start rolling-out anytime soon in the upcoming few weeks, we still have no exact release date yet. The Update will bring an update TouchWiz UI with Material Design, new notification panel, new lockscreen, guest mode and lots of other features along with various bug fixes and performance improvements.

We posted a while ago a list of Confirmed mid-range Samsung devices to get Lollipop update. Today, Samsung Galaxy Core Prime (SM-G360F) Lollipop 5.0.2 update has just started Rolling-out in Poland.

Now, we got reports from our trusted sources that the Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime (SM-G530) Android Lollipop update is almost ready and will start Rolling-out Later this Month (May,2015).

The Grand Prime was reported before to get Android 5.1.1 update, However, the latest Android stable build developed for the Grand Prime is 5.0.2 Lollipop but there is still time for the development team to work on 5.1.1 Lollipop for this device, so we have to wait and see which build will be released for the device.

Samsung Mobile Arabia Official: No Lollipop update for the Galaxy Grand Prime in ME

Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime was confirmed to get Android 5.0 Lollipop update and even reported to get the latest Android Build 5.1.1 lollipop that is still on the works but the update is expected to start rolling-out by the end of May (this month).

Sadly... Today, the Grand Prime joins the long list of the samsung Galaxy devices that won't be getting the Lollipop update in the Middle-east region. Just to remind you, Previously, Samsung Gulf confirmed that Galaxy E7 won't be getting the update and also Note 8.0 and TabPRO 8.4 won't be getting the Lollipop update too.

Now, Samsung Mobile Arabia said via its official twitter account that the Galaxy Grand Prime won't be getting the Android 5.0 Lollipop update in the whole Middle-east region as a reply to a user query about the Grand Prime, this is bad news for the Arab users.

It looks like that Samsung Middle-east firm won't be releasing any lollipop update for any mid-range devices, only latest flagships will get it, however, this is ONLY for the Middle-east and doesn't affect other regions which are confirmed to get the Grand Prime Lollipop update.

Samsung is working Galaxy Grand Prime Value Edition (SM-G531F). It will pack a 5" qHD display (540 x 960px) and while it drops the Snapdragon 410 chipset, moving to a Marvell PXA1908, but keeps the quad-core 64-bit processor (Cortex-A53) and 1GB of RAM. The GPU is different though, GC7000.

Connectivity brings the same LTE Cat.54, Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 and NFC. The cameras are 8MP on the back and 5MP on the front, the battery at 2,600mAh. Thickness and weight stay at 8.6mm and 156g, really not much has changed. Galaxy Grand Prime Value Edition launch price should be around €200

T-Mobile is selling Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime and Galaxy Core Prime with Lollipop 5.1.1 Pre-installed

The Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime, which made its debut in the US back in April at Cricket and landed on Sprint earlier this month, The Galaxy Grand Prime Value Edition is now available for purchase on T-Mobile. The device carries a price tag of $190.

Specs-wise, the handset is powered by a Snapdragon 410 SoC with quad-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A53 CPU and Adreno 306 GPU, and sports a 5.0 inch display with 540 x 960 pixels resolution. The T-Mobile variant comes with 1.5GB RAM and 8GB expandable internal memory, and packs in a 2600 mAh battery.

In terms of camera, the smartphone features an 8MP rear unit and a 5MP selfie shooter. It runs Android 5.1.1 Lollipop out-of-the-box.

In addition to the Galaxy Grand Prime, the magenta carrier has also started selling the Galaxy Core Prime VE, which arrived on Verizon back in February this year and started receiving Android Lollipop update in May. The T-Mobile variant will set you back $140.

[UPDATED!] Unconfirmed News from Samsung UK that Original Galaxy Grand Prime Lollipop Update is Canceled

Samsung has already released the Galaxy Grand Prime Value Edition (SM-G531) which is exactly the same as the original Grand Prime but drops Snapdragon 410 chipset, replacing it with a Marvell PXA1908 Quad-core 64-bit processor (Cortex-A53) CPU and a new Vivante GC7000 GPU, the Value Edition is launching with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop and its official firmwares are already available for Download HERE.

However, Today, SamsungUK published some unconfirmed news that the Original Galaxy Grand Prime (SM-G530) will not be getting the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update which runs a Snapdragon 410 CPU with 1GB RAM. There is no official explanation for this, even if the Galaxy Grand Prime is almost the same specs as Galaxy Core Prime.

After contacting SamsungUK it turns out that this info was a incorrect and it's a mistake made by the social manager due to small confusion. In other hands, none of the UK carriers are officially selling the Samsung Grand Prime (locked or unlocked). However, UK users can still get the unlocked european variant from Amazon UK or any other online retailer.

So to all Galaxy Grand Prime, keep Calm and wait for your Lollipop update, there is still hope.

Meanwhile, The (SM-G530F and SM-G530BT) users are still waiting for their first Lollipop Firmware.

We reported before that the Galaxy Grand Prime update status is "Delayed" due to development issues and has been like that for more than 3 months. Now, the status has changed... Samsung has started releasing the first official Original Galaxy Grand Prime Android 5.0.2 Lollipop firmwares a couple of days ago. Currently the (SM-G530H) and (SM-G530FZ) variants are updated while the (SM-G530F), (SM-G530BT) and (SM-G530M) variants are expected to get the same update by early next month September.

However, those releases are only test releases which means that newer firmwares builds are coming in the next few days for those models. The final versions that will be rolling-out globally to all regions and variants should be here by the end of september. The Lollipop 5.0.2 bring an improved TouchWiz UI with Material Design, new notification panel, new lockscreen and lots of other features along with various bug fixes and performance improvements.

Sadly, the Original Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime will not be getting the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update which will stay Exclusive ONLY to the Galaxy Grand Prime Value Edition (SM-G531) which packs an improved hardware specifications.

The January Security Patch makes its way onto the Galaxy J2 Prime and the Galaxy Grand Lite

The security patch for January 2017 has started to roll out to the Galaxy J2 Prime and the Galaxy Grand Lite. While it's only natural for the J2 Prime to receive the update as it was only released last November, it is both surprising and good to see that Samsung still remembers the Grand Lite which was released almost three years ago in 2014. However, an upgrade to Lollipop is not officially on the cards for the Grand Lite as it continues to run on the ancient Android 4.4.4 KitKat OS.

The firmware version containing the update for the J2 Prime is G532GDXU1AQA4, while the one for the Grand Lite is I9060CUBS0AQA1. If you have an old Samsung smartphone that you want to upgrade but an official upgrade from Samsung is highly unlikely, head over to our firmware section and find the right custom ROM for your particular handset model. The only thing is that we recommend taking a look at our tutorial at least once before attempting to flash any ROM updates.
