The Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy Note 8 are the current kings of Samsung's smartphone lineup, so it's no surprise that Samsung is already working towards getting the latest version of Android ready for these smartphones. However, it seems like the Oreo update will arrive on the Galaxy S8 series sooner than Nougat 7.0 did on the S7 lineup. We have come to this conclusion after finding out that the Galaxy S8 was seen on Geekbench yesterday, testing out an Android Oreo powered firmware. It was spotted by GalaxyClub and was brought to mass attention by SamMobile.

You can check out the benchmark results in the screenshot above and apart from the OS version, nothing much seems to have changed though as the scores are pretty much par for the S8. After the Galaxy S8, S8+ and the Note 8, it is expected that Samsung will update the S7 lineup next.

Samsung did not release Android Nougat 7.1.1 for the Galaxy S8 and S8+ this year because both phones will be upgraded directly to Android 8.0 Oreo, as per reports. While the official Oreo update will still take a good bit of time before seeing release on any of the Samsung handsets, reports on the internet are indicating that the Beta Program will go live on October 31^st in the US.

If you do not live in the United States, does it mean that you won't be able to become a part of Samsung's beta program? No, that's not the situation at all. As long as you own a S8 and S8+ in the UK, US, Canada and South Korea, the beta program will be accessible to you as well. If you own any of the two smartphones in China, India, Germany, Poland, France or Spain, you will still get the beta program, but much later, during the 2^nd Phase. Download the Samsung Members App from the Play Store if you want to register for the Oreo beta program when it's announced. Remember that all this information is likely true, but none of it is official yet.

It always feels good to know that Samsung has not forgotten its older handsets and that would without doubt be the case if this little rumor turns out to be true. The rumor in question indicates that Samsung might be planning to extend the Android 8.0 Oreo to the Galaxy S6 line-up. That would indeed be quite surprising given that the handset is now almost three years old at this point!

The rumor originated after a Reddit user initiated a conversation with a Samsung Rep which resulted in the representative telling the user that his Galaxy S6 will be updated to Android Oreo! The most logical explanation to this would be that it was a mistake from the side of the representative and little else, but if it does turn out to be true, nobody would really mind! Before you get all excited, let us tell you that it's not an official update that we are talking about and not even an official beta version. The version of Android 8.0 Oreo which we are discussing here is unfortunately, unfinished and will almost certainly make your experience a very buggy one, should you choose to flash it.

The ROM in question was leaked on Reddit by someone with the username mweinbach and it's an expectedly hefty download of 1.4GB. Post the download, you should be able to use the phone, albeit with a lot of limitations. In spite of all its bugs, one cannot deny that it is most certainly a chance to test Oreo before everyone else for Galaxy Note 8 owners.

Before you decide to proceed with the download, take note of the following points, alongside the many bugs.

·         Your device will fail the SafetyNet check

·         Android Pay, Samsung Pay etc. won't work

·         Play Store will constantly show your device as unverified

·         There is no Project Treble to be found here

Just as always, Samsung had started rolling out beta updates of the latest Android 8.0 Oreo OS to select devices and users who signed up for the Galaxy Beta Program a few months back, but that time is about to come to an end now, as the fifth and very likely, the final beta update is out now. The OTA update comes in at a fairly large but expected size of 613MB and The Android Soul reports the firmware version to be ZQLE.

While it most probably marks the end of the Oreo beta updates, there is no doubt that it's good news. This basically means that the official and final version of the latest Android OS is about to make its appearance via OTA on various devices now. Unfortunately, if you are in India, you have probably only started receiving the second beta update.

It was just days earlier that the Galaxy S8 and S8+ was up on Wi-Fi Alliance for certification purposes while running Android 8.0 Oreo and today we have another report that indicates an Android Oreo powered stable firmware update is just around the corner for the two devices. In fact, this latest report gives us hope that Samsung could start pushing the update much sooner, that is on or after January 15.

Keep in mind that this speculation was born out of a statement made by Samsung in one of its official notices where it stated the following, "Also please note, Beta Programe will end on Monday, January 15, 2018." While that isn't a confirmation that Samsung will start rolling out the OS upgrade on January 15, it would be surprising if the company doesn't start doing so by the end of the third week of January. Nevertheless, depending what your geographic location is and which career you are on, the update could be delayed further. We will find out soon enough.

Before you start looking for the update, let us tell you that they are not out yet. In fact, there is no guarantee at this moment as to when these two devices will be getting the OS upgrade on T-Mobile. Nevertheless, it's still good news that T-Mobile has officially confirmed the fact that the much awaited Oreo update is indeed coming to the Galaxy J7 Prime and the Tab E (8-inch) on T-Mobile.

This fact was made official when T-Mobile decided to add the names of these two devices on their website as being in line for the Oreo update via OTA. Given that both the Galaxy J7 Prime and the Galaxy Tab E are budget devices, this news is both somewhat unexpected and pleasant at the same time. If you have any of the devices without a carrier contract, it is unclear whether you will be getting the Android Oreo 8.0 update before or after the T-Mobile versions.

It has finally started; Samsung is now rolling out the final and official Android 8.0 Oreo powered firmware for the Galaxy S8 and S8+ in Germany. Of course, it's the users who signed up for the beta firmware that are actually getting the OTA update at the moment, but others will soon follow. If you are running the beta already, the update size should be in the vicinity of 500MB, depending on where you are located and which version of the beta you have running on your S8 or S8+.

In Germany, the firmware which is being rolled out is version G955XXU1CRAP for the S8+ and it comes in at an expected size of 487MB. Keep in mind that the same update will be much larger if you are not a beta tester. It should only be a few hours from now, before you start seeing the Oreo package waiting for you (provided you are in Germany), even if you are not a beta user. It has now been confirmed; Samsung has indeed released the first Android 8.0 final build for the Galaxy S7 Edge in Vietnam and although it was a mistake, some users have indeed received it and they are the only ones in the entire world to be lucky enough to run the official Oreo firmware on their devices before the company even intended.

According to the user who reported this update, the firmware version on the update is G935FXXU2ERB2 and it also updates the UI to Samsung Experience v9.0. Although a lot of users (including yours truly) has already received, downloaded and updated their devices via OTA, Samsung has officially stopped rolling out the Android Oreo 8.0 updates for the Galaxy S8 and S8+. If you are wondering why they have done so, we actually have an explanation from the OEM, thanks to a direct query by SamMobile. Apparently, some devices were experiencing an automatic and sudden reboot issue, post the update. You will find the official statement below.

"Following a limited number of cases where Galaxy S8 and S8+ devices have rebooted unexpectedly with the Android 8.0 Oreo, we have temporarily stopped the rollout of the update. We are investigating the issue internally to ensure that the impact to the affected devices is minimized and the rollout of the update can resume as quickly as possible."

In spite of Samsung calling the number "limited," it was clearly big enough for the company to completely halt the updates for now, so do keep an eye on your device if you are already running Oreo on your S8 or S8+. Even if it does begin to show issues, we would not be too worried as Samsung will definitely be releasing a patch very soon to fix the issue on their flagship. In any case, it is a bit disappointing for us and embarrassing for the OEM to mess up an update that they had a long time and a number of beta testing months to perfect.

Samsung did not have the best of starts this year when the OEM started to roll out Android 8.0 to some of the Galaxy S8 and S8+ devices in a lot of the regions. Apparently, the roll out had some bugs which caused certain devices to restart on their own and Samsung had to halt the process in order to fix the bug.

Reports from multiple sources indicate that the rollouts have started again and hopefully, Samsung has managed to fix the issue this time around. Fans are not exactly happy, but we are glad that Samsung managed to address the fault quickly enough. Once can argue though that the bug shouldn't have been there to begin with, given how much time Samsung took to release the update. In any case, look out for firmware version G950FXXU1CRB7 and G955XXU1CRB7 for the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8+ respectively, if you own any of the two handsets of course. The OTA packages should come in a at a size of roughly 531MB so you better fire up that Wi-Fi before starting the download.

The beta testing program of Android Oreo had been introduced some time back on its Galaxy S8 and S8+ models. If you are in France and you own a Galaxy Note 8, your wait is finally over because according to reports from multiple sources, Samsung's flagship Note series handset from last year has started receiving Android 8.0 Oreo in the country. In case you are reading this anywhere else in the world on a Galaxy Note 8, this news probably disappointed you a bit, but given that the rollout has already started, you will probably not have to wait too long for the update, irrespective of your actual location.

Contrary to previous routines, Samsung had been quite benevolent with the Galaxy S8/S8+ unlocked version in the US because the unlocked versions got the update before all carrier variants this year. Normally, that would be the natural course of things in other regions, but that has not been the case in the United States lately. Finally, it's time for you to receive some Oreo goodness for your S8/S8+, if you happen to own any of the two handsets on AT&T.

Firmware version G950USQU2CRB9 for the Galaxy S8 and G955USQU2CRB9 for the Galaxy S8+ are being rolled out for the two devices on AT&T and it shouldn't be long before you are prompted to update your device, if you have not been prompted yet. Unfortunately, it doesn't come with the March security patch, but only the security update from last month.

For those that are not familiar with the Galaxy S8 Active, let us inform you that it's an extremely rugged and durable version of the regular Galaxy S8 that's available both on AT&T and T-Mobile at the moment. Unfortunately, in spite of having the same internals, the S8 Active had not received the Android Oreo update yet, but recent reports are indicating that is not the situation anymore. S8 Active users on AT&T are seeing the update arrive on their devices now, so you should check your Software Updates section too.

The update comes in firmware version G892AUCU2BRC5 and is expectedly hefty in size at roughly 1.2GB. Thankfully, the March security patch from Google and Samsung is also included in the OTA package. Although the official AT&T page doesn't yet have any specifics mentioned on it, this news seems pretty authentic.

While Samsung has already finished rolling out the Android 8.0 Oreo update in most regions across the world, the unfortunate users of the unlocked smartphone in the US had not yet received the same. The good news is that has changed now because multiple reports have confirmed that the unlocked Galaxy S8 and S8+ have finally started receiving the elusive update in the United States.

As it is the tradition in the country, the carrier versions always get the update before the unlocked variants, although, it should technically be the other way around. Clearly, this is more a business decision than anything else, but even then, it's a decision that users can do little about. Nevertheless, seeing that the update has arrived only after a short time since it was first being rolled out to the carrier variants, we would say it's an improvement over previous records. In case you own any of the two handsets, firmware version G950U1UEU2CRB9 (S8) or G955U1UEU2CRB9 (S8+) will be making its way onto your device anytime now, via OTA. Both updates should have a size of around 1.3GB roughly.

Now that Samsung has mostly finished upgrading all its recent flagships and some high-end smartphones with the Android Oreo 8.0 update, the company has shifted its focus towards mid-rangers and the Galaxy A5 (2017) is reportedly the first lucky device in the segment to receive the latest (major) version of the Android OS. We know that it isn't most timely of updates but given how many handsets will never even get Oreo, we think the owners of the Galaxy A5 (2017) should be pretty happy. It doesn't really come as a big surprise though as the A5 (2017) was already on Samsung's update list and just a few weeks ago, the handset was seen getting tested with Android 8.0 on Wi-Fi Alliance.

As of now, reports indicate that Russia is where the roll out started, but it should spread to most of the other regions pretty soon as well. Expect the OTA package to weigh in at around 1.2GB, but the firmware version was not mentioned by the source. Nevertheless, if you look closely, you can probably make it out from the screenshots and it looks to be A520FXXU4CRD3.

Android 8.0 Oreo might be an old OS for Pixel users by now, but it is a version of the Android OS that is has still not arrived on a lot of third-party devices. Samsung is not exactly known to be fast at rolling out the firmware updates and especially when it comes to major Android OS upgrades, but what one can rely on the South Korean company for is the fact that their flagships will eventually get all the major Android upgrades for at least two years from their release. Staying true to that reputation, Samsung will in all likelihood, release the firmware update for the S7 and S7 Edge by May 18.

This fact was confirmed after the two devices were seen being tested and certified on Wi-Fi Alliance. The good news for our readers in the US is that all the US carrier variants have also been certified and will thus receive the Oreo update pretty soon as well. However, since carrier rollouts are subject to the scheduling of the carriers themselves, we are not sure which carrier will be releasing the update when. In any case, it should not be too long now.

It has hardly been twenty-four hours since the report was published that Samsung is about to release Android 8.0 Oreo for the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge in May and it has already started on the very first day of the month! Yes, the much awaited Oreo update for the S7 and the S7 Edge is now live in the UK and possibly certain other European regions as well, by the time you read this. Now that the rollout has begun, it means that the same update will be arriving in your region pretty soon. It's a surprising development, albeit a pleasant one.

Seeing how fast the update has been released, it would be safe to say that all Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge models will very likely be running on Android 8.0 Oreo by the previously rumored deadline of May 18. If you are in the UK and you have a Galaxy S7, firmware version G930FXXU2ERD5 should be making its way onto your device via OTA anytime now. On the other hand, the Galaxy S7 Edge users will be seeing the G935FXXU2ERD5 firmware land on their devices.

UK was the first region to see Oreo ship out for the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge back in May, but now other regions are also joining the list. India has just joined in as one of the regions that are getting the Android 8.0 update for the S7 and S7 Edge in June, alongside UAE. If you live in Europe or South Korea however, you probably already have the update installed, but that's to be expected.

The firmware version carrying the Android Oreo upgrade is G930FXXU2EREM for the Galaxy S7 and G935FXXU2EREM for the Galaxy S7 Edge. Both updates are around the 1.4 GB mark, with firmware version G935FXXU2EREM being slightly larger in size than G930FXXU2EREM. The update patch included with the package is from April though and that's a bit disappointing, given that we are already into the second week of June! Feel free to check for the update manually from the Settings menu, but it you will be prompted once it lands on your smartphone via OTA anyway.

Android 9 Pie might very well be running smoothly on the Google Pixels, but a large number of the Android models have not even received Oreo unfortunately. The good news is that this is about to change for those who own a Galaxy J3 (2017), because Samsung has just started to push out the update to the handsets in Russia and UAE. If you are in any of the two countries, then the updates should arrive on your phone any minute now. In Russia, the firmware will have the version number J330FXXU3BRH1 and in the UAE, J330FXWU3BRG3 will make its way onto the J3 (2017) via OTA.

If you are wondering when the same update will arrive in your region, don't worry about it, because it's only a matter of days or weeks at worst. Seeing that the J3 (2017) is one of the low-tier phones in the J-series, this more or less confirms that all versions of the J5 (2017) and J7 (2017) will also be getting the Oreo upgrade.
