HTC Vertex

HTC has only two tablets in the markets Flyer and JetStream and non of them was successful, but it will get back in the game. Shortly after a spokesperson from the Taiwanese company confirmed HTC's intent of bringing a new slate to the UK soon, we now have the first actual proof of its existence. The above photo is a leaked photo of the tablet and also we have its benchmark results.

The tablet is will be called "HTC Vertex", Same as the Google Nexus 7, it's powered by a quad-core Tegra 3 chipset. The screen of the Android ICS-running slate is of yet unknown size, but we know it's going to have a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels.

benchmark results

We are not sure if HTC is working on another 7″ slate that should succeed the Flyer, or if the Taiwanese are going to go big with a 10″ size this time. If they choose the first option, their tablet will be positioned dangerously close to the Google Nexus 7 and that's a competitor few would like to have.

Android ICS 4.0.3 released first on the Galaxy Nexus, All manufactures promise to update their latest phones from Gingerbread to ICS. Now, most major phone manufacturers including Asus, Samsung and Sony have finished the testing and certification and are ready to update device to ICS very soon.

Phone makers have not yet updated their devices to the latest Android despite the fact that the 4.0.x version was released in November of last year. That is nearly a five month gap in which Gingerbread continues to be the dominant Android version on high-end handsets on the platform.

And if the rumors are true, Android 5.0 JB should make fragmentation even worse as the publication expects the new version to arrive as early as May or June. Internally, this is allegedly slowing down phone manufacturers with ICS updates as they try to prepare for 5.0.

Samsung has already pushed an ICS update for its Galaxy S II, and next in line are the Galaxy Tab 8.9, the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Galaxy Note. Asus has also updated its original Transformer, and Sony recently announced plans to bump up the Android versions of the Tablet P and Tablet S by end-April.

Adobe has now announced that Flash Player won't be supported in Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. A prime example of this is the new Nexus 7 tablet, that ships without Flash support. Furthermore, Adobe has also announced that it will Cease new Flash Player downloads from the Google Play Store starting from 15,August.

JB cry

First of all, devices that come pre-loaded with Flash have been certified by Adobe that the Flash Player will works as expected on the device. Adobe says that it will not certify any Android 4.1 devices.

While in the past that wouldn't be that big of a deal, Adobe also says that starting on August 15th, it will configure the settings in the Play Store to only allow Flash Player updates to devices that already have Flash installed. Devices that do not have Flash installed will not be authorized to download it from the Google Play Store. While a device that is upgraded from 4.0 to 4.1 will keep its Flash Player in tact, Adobe recommends uninstalling it because it may exhibit unexpected behavior.

After 15, August You won't be able to download Flash Player on any New Android Handset.

With the release of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, CyanogenMod had provides some details about when they will be releasing an update to CyanogenMod. CyanogenMod team has taken to Google+ and although they did not provide an ETA for the update, they did provide a few details about the update itself.

The next update, as you may have guessed, will be called CM10, keeping with the tradition of giving the update the same number as the position of the alphabet of the Android version is named after (Jelly Bean). Here is the Official Announcement:

"...On Jelly Bean

Unless you have been internet deprived lately, you are aware that Android 4.1 aka Jelly Bean (JB) is due out in the coming weeks. Which inevitably leads to the question: How does this affect me CyanogenMod?

Now, to preface this, we do not have our hands on the source code, and things in this post may change dependent on analysis of the code first hand and the impacts. That said, we do have a general understanding of the changes and what we can expect, and this post serves to highlight the key changes.

CyanogenMod Next

Many have asked whether JB will be CM9.1 or CM10. Keeping with the pattern thus far, every newly named AOSP update results in a bump to the CM major version. This has the added benefit of fitting into the pattern of [insert codename position in the english alphabet] = CM version. Examples being: G is the 7th letter thus CM7, I is the 9th letter thus CM9 and J = 10.

I can't believe its not Butter

The ‘Project Butter' enhancements to Android are much anticipated and should not be a huge pain to merge. We anticipate some breakage in existing libs but nothing that the reference board devices or some hackery won't overcome. Essentially, if your device met our criteria for CM9 (512mb RAM, etc) and is already supported, then you should be in line for CM10. There may be some added headaches around hwcomposer, but we'll cross that bridge when we get source.

When it's ready... "

In the Google Play Store, there is an update for Flipboard that helps prevent accidental page flipping. Additionally, the update also exterminates some bugs that afflicted the app. But more importantly, for those with Android 4.2, it supports the Daydream feature for the OS build.

Daydream is a screensaver that turns on when the phone is charging or docked. Users can choose between seeing the clock, changing colors, photos or headlines from Google Currents. While the latter might sound interesting, it is not interactive which means while headlines appear before your eyes, you cannot touch on one to open a news story. And this is where Flipboard's update comes in.

DALLAS - October 17, 2012 - Samsung Telecommunications America, LLC (Samsung Mobile) - the No.1 mobile phone provider in the United States and a subsidiary of Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., the No. 1 smartphone provider worldwide1 - continues its commitment to bringing the latest innovation to market with the rollout of Android 4.1, Jelly Bean, the latest version of the world's most popular smartphone operating system, to all Galaxy S III smartphones in the U.S. in the coming months.

The update will be made available both over the air and as a download via Kies, Samsung's content sync and software update solution. The specific timing and update method will be announced by each carrier partner, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon Wireless and U.S. Cellular.

Galaxy S III owners will receive the Jelly Bean update as well as a host of new and enhanced TouchWiz features, making it a faster, richer and more responsive device experience. Samsung's best-selling flagship smartphone just got even better.

Samsung refined and enhanced the Galaxy S III experience by adding new capabilities to the camera, video and user interface, including:

· Camera Enhancements:
o New live camera and camcorder filters offer a range of new ways to spark your creativity. Warm vintage, cold vintage, black and white, sepia, color highlights (blue, green, red/yellow), and many more are selectable from the main camera screen.
o Pause and resume while recording video allows users to string together multiple captured video clips from a party, birthday or sporting event into a single file with no post editing required.

o Low light photo mode takes advantage of Galaxy S III's best-in-class High Dynamic Range (HDR) capabilities and offers an optimized mode for low light and indoor photos.
o Pop Up Play Update: Users can now easily resize or pause the Pop Up Play picture-in-picture video window, taking full advantage of the Galaxy S III's powerful processor and large 4.8-inch screen.

o Easy Mode: Easy Mode is a simplified user experience option for first-time smartphone owners, providing large home screen widgets that focus on the device essentials. The Easy widgets include both 4x2 and 4x4 arrangements of favorite contacts, favorite apps, favorite settings, clock and alarm.
o Blocking Mode: Galaxy S III owners can disable incoming calls, notifications, alarms and LED indicators for a designated period of time.

o Improved Usability: Users now have multiple keyboard options with the addition of the Swype® keyboard.

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean offers users a smoother, faster and more fluid experience with expanded feature functionality, including:

o Google NowTM: Google Now gives users the right information at the right time, like how much traffic to expect before leaving work, when the next train is scheduled to arrive at the subway station or the score of a favorite team's current game - conveniently delivered as notifications. Additionally, Google Now provides powerful voice assistant functionality across a range of domains, including weather, maps, navigation, search, image search, flight status and more. Google Now can conveniently be launched from the lock screen shortcut or by a long press on the menu button from any screen.

o Rich Notifications: Notifications can now expand and shrink with a pinch to show the right amount of information a user needs. Notifications have been enhanced so action can be taken without having to launch the app first - like sharing a screenshot directly from the notification.

o Automatic Widget Adjustment: Customizing the home screen is easier than ever before. Users can simply place a new icon or widget on the screen, and existing icons will move out of the way to make space. When widgets are too big, they automatically resize to fit on the screen.

In addition to the operating system update, Samsung and ESPN worked together to integrate AllShare® technology into ESPN's popular ScoreCenter® application. This means Galaxy S III owners will now be able to wirelessly push on-demand ESPN global sports coverage and highlights from the ESPN ScoreCenter app to their Samsung SMART TVTM. When on the same Wi-Fi network as a Samsung SMART TV, a sharing icon will appear within the ScoreCenter video player which allows users to seamlessly push what they are watching to the TV. The ScoreCenter app with AllShare integration is available today for download through S SuggestTM on all U.S. Galaxy S III devices. With the Jelly Bean update, the Galaxy S III will also add support for some exciting new accessory experiences.

o AllShare® Cast Wireless Hub: The AllShare Cast Wireless Hub accessory allows users to wirelessly mirror their phone screen to any HDTV or HDMI® display. Whether it's sharing pictures, browsing the Web, playing games, streaming music, watching videos or projecting business presentations, users can control the action on the big screen wirelessly from their smartphone. AllShare Cast Wireless Hub even supports licensed content playback of premium TV and movies.

o NFC One Touch Pairing Support: Galaxy S III can now pair with supporting NFC Bluetooth® accessories in a single touch. The Samsung Galaxy HM3300 Bluetooth headset will be the first Samsung portfolio accessory to support this functionality (available in the near future), allowing users to pair their headset by touching it to the back of their device.
