Verizon Pushing Out VRBMF1 Update to Samsung Galaxy S3, to addresses connectivity ussues.  The update seems to fix the connectivity issues, judging from comments left by Verizon Galaxy S3 users on the same site.

Users are reporting faster speeds and say that things seem to have returned to normal. The update seems to be just a small bug fix, without any other enhancements, but, if you've been facing the issues, it most certainly makes a huge difference.

We have yet to find change log documents that detail changes, however, the update was small enough that it likely is a bug fixer.

To get the update, just gointo Settings>About phone>Software update.

Thanks to Droid-Life for this.

Samsung Electronics reportedly has revised downward its purchases of parts and components for its latest flagship model, the Galaxy S4, for the second and third quarters of 2013 due to a slowdown in demand in the end market, according to industry sources.

ETNews confirmed once again that Samsung has issued order forecasts on the lower range for this quarter, 20-25 million instead of 25 million firm, and has lowered the forecast for next quarter from 30 million units down to 20 million.

But this does not mean that Samsung is losing its competitiveness in the smartphone segment, but rather indicates an underlying structural change in the industry, where demand for entry-level to midrange smartphones is rising sharply in China and other emerging markets, and the market for high-end models is becoming saturated, said the sources.

Samsung on Monday announced that it will hold an event in London next month, presumably to launch new devices in its Android and Windows lines.

The company sent out an invite for its June 20 "Samsung Premiere 2013," promising news on both the Ativ and Galaxy Brands. Samsung uses Galaxy for its line of Android-based phones, tablets and cameras, while Ativ is used for Windows phones and tablets.

We expect Samsung to show off some of the latest products it's announced, including the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active and the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom.

Samsung said in the invitation that the event will be held at the Earl's Court exhibition center in London, and will also be Webcast on YouTube.

Samsung has started rolling out a software update for its Galaxy Note II - the GT-N7100 version. Unfortunately, the update doesn't bring Android 4.2.2, so the handset still runs Android 4.1.2.

The software update is, according to Samsung, its a stability update that fixes things like battery drain, bug fixes and other small problems. Android 4.2.2 for the Galaxy Note II and S3 is planned in Q3 together with the new interface of the Galaxy S4. The update is available in most European countries and has a build date of May 31. Update your device by using KIES or OTA (over the air) services.

UK Retailer Handtec is taking pre-orders for the S4 Zoom, asking £467.99 for it. That's almost as much as the price of an unlocked 16GB Samsung Galaxy S4.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom can be a pretty good option for those customers that want a capable camera and a smartphone in one device, so that they don't need to carry both around. It has a 4.3-inch qHD Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 960 x 540 and Corning Gorilla Glass 3 with Native Damage Resistance. It's powered by a dual-core CPU at 1.5GHz and 1.5GB of RAM, has 8GB of internal memory, and microSD support so you have enough space to store your images.

Samsung has yet to reveal the Galaxy S4 Zoom's price and release date details. To check out Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom's features and strengths, you can take a look at Samsung's lifestyle video below.

Some leaked images from Chinese sources on Weibo and provide a few more snapshots of the 41-megapixel camera phone to complement the Nokia EOS PureView pictures leaked online last week and the camera video that also appeared.

The smartphone is rumoured to pack a 41-megapixel Carl Zweiss image sensor in the rear with Xenon flash, potentially with optical image stabilisation and variable aperture. From the images we've seen so far, the camera should bulge out from the rear of the smartphone, slightly distorting its otherwise straight back.

Although the actual screen size is unknown, it should offer 1290 x 768p resolutions and 32GB of internal storage.

Engadget has promised a few more photos in the coming days, and hopefully they'll unravel more mystery before Nokia lets the cat out of the bag next month.

The leaked image which was uploaded to the Picasa web albums has a resolution of 2322 x 4128 pixels, which is what a 13MP sensor produces in 16:9 mode. This means that Samsung will again equip its flagship smartphone and phablet with identical camera modules - a tradition that has been going since the first Galaxy Note came to life.

The photo's EXIF data shows an f/2.2 aperture and a 31mm lens, which again is the same as the Galaxy S4's setup. Some reports had previously suggested the Note 3 would feature image stabilisation, bringing it inline with current top-shelf offerings from Nokia, but this has yet to be confirmed.

We think a Q3 2013 release could be on the cards - slightly later than its 2012 Galaxy Note August release date, but developing a 6.3-inch OLED display can't be easy work!

Pricing on the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is yet to even be rumoured, but we think it will probably be more expensive than the Galaxy Note 2. After all, the screen is much larger.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini will be available in the U.K. in just a couple of weeks, we're hoping this news means we're one step closer for the device to make its debut in the U.S. In case you need a refresher, the Galaxy S4 Mini will feature a 4.3-inch qHD Super AMOLED display, 1.7GHz dual-core processor, 1.5GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage with support for 64 microSD cards, an 8MP rear-facing camera, 1.9MP front-facing camera and will run on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.

For the £27 per month you can get unlimited minutes, unlimited texting, and 250 MB of data at Orange. Or you can go to T-Mobile, which will offer you 500 minutes, unlimited texting, and unlimited data for the same monthly amount.

According to SamMobile, Samsung has delayed the Android 4.2.2 update for the Note II and Galaxy S3. The reason seems to be the new version of TouchWiz that needs to be tested on the handsets.

It's unclear which new features will be coming to the Samsung Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 once the update is eventually rolled out. However, with Sammobile claiming that Samsung is looking to bring the latest version of Touchwiz to these two ageing handsets, it's likely that new software features such as Smart Scroll and Smart Pause will appear in the update.

Speculation also suggests that Samsung will bring updated camera features, including Dual Shot mode, to the two older handsets, as well as some of its latest apps such as S Translator.

Samsung has officially announced the Galaxy S4 Zoom - before expected June 20 announcement. They described the S4 Zoom as: a "device which combines the stylish heritage of the latest Galaxy S4 smartphone with advanced photographic capabilities."

"The Samsung GALAXY S4 zoom represents yet another step forward in the way Samsung is working to enhance the lives of our customers around the world," said JK Shin, President and CEO, Head of IT & Mobile Communications Division, Samsung Electronics. "As communication continues to become increasingly visual in nature, people wish to capture and share their moments in the highest quality possible, but often do not have the space or inclination to carry a dedicated camera for this purpose. The GALAXY S4 zoom changes this forever, combining the industry leading functionality and connectivity of the GALAXY S4 with the high quality photographic experience you'd expect from a compact camera. The result is truly the best of both worlds, without compromise."

Galaxy S4 Zoom has a powerful camera on the back has made the Galaxy S4 Zoom really thick and heavy: it measures 125.5 x 63.5 x 15.4 mm, weighing 208 grams. We've read the rumors, we've seen the banners, and now it's finally here. Live from the Moscone Center in San Francisco, Tim Cook has just taken the wraps off of the latest upgrade to Apple's mobile operating system (after pumping up the crowd with some shimmering stats for the current OS, naturally), and as expected, the company's maintained its familiar naming scheme, introducing the world to iOS 7. Tim Cook called it the biggest change to the operating system since the introduction of the iPhone, bold words supported by new features and a new design that managed to get a visible gasp from the room full of developers when shown off in a promo video.

The new designs start on the lock screen, featuring a much thinner lettering. The icons have been redesigned and are flatter as expected. The company's also updated the typography and added new animation and transparency for images. The design goes edge to edge on the display, taking more advance of real estate. The Desktop moves as you do, creating "a new experience of depth." The company only focused on design during the intro video, but that was certainly enough to get the crowd excited.

Samsung reportedly is planning to release a 12.2in tablet in the third quarter as it looks to further challenge Apple's iPad.   The rumor is according to a report from ETNews who claims that Samsung Display and Sharp are set to supply a display of 12.2″ to Samsung Electronics for an upcoming device, and since these displays are manufactured by Sharp, they will come equipped with IGZO technology and could potentially sport a display resolution of 2560×1600. The device is also expected to come with a stylus, a feature which is found as part of Samsung's Galaxy Note range which explains why there is speculation that this could be a Samsung Galaxy Note 12.2 device.

Calling the Samsung Galaxy Note 12.2, will also feature an included S Pen stylus, which means we can expect to see the usual set of preloaded apps such as S Note and S Planner. It's unclear yet which version of Android the tablet will run, but it's likely to be Google's yet unannounced Android 4.3 mobile operating system, skinned with Samsung's Touchwiz user interface.

There's no word on a release date or pricing yet, but Samsung is likely to announce the device in August or September.

Samsung Electronics lost $12 billion in stock market value on Friday, hit by brokerage downgrades that have underscored concerns about slowing sales of its flagship Galaxy S4 smartphone.  Analysts say sales momentum for the high-end version of the S4, which became its fastest selling smartphone since its launch in late April, has slowed.

The share slide of more than 6 percent comes after it recently introduced two stripped-down versions of the S4, fanning worries that profit margins for its mobile business will suffer. It also follows a report that arch-rival Apple will begin a trade-in program for iPhones.

"Samsung has yet to prove its 'creative' innovation, that is, launching a product or a market segment that has not existed before in addition to prowess in manufacturing technology," Fitch said, from Ratings agency Fitch Ratings.

According flurry.com, there are 10 percent more active Android devices in use around the world than iOS devices, and it looks like this trend is likely to continue. At the recent All Things D conference Apple's CEO Tim Cook spoke on stage with Walt Mossberg, he mentioned Android users spend 20 percent less time using apps on their devices compared to iOS users.

So what are the reasons for this? One reason could be that Android phones are becoming so prevalent that many users are switching from feature phones to Android smartphones but actually they don't want/need/know about the smartphone features and so spend less time in apps but more time using the phone as just a simple phone.

In this report from flurry.com, arguing that there is more than one race for mobile market share occurring simultaneously. They analyzed four years worth of Flurry's data to understand who is ahead in which contests, discuss the apparent strengths and weaknesses of the competitors, and consider the implications for the overall mobile ecosystem.

According to a recent report regarding app market purchases, Android is set to become the most popular app platform in the world within the next few months.  Driven by new devices from Samsung, Google's app store, called Play, has surged ahead, despite a continued lack of top-end applications and consumers who still spend lower amounts. There are now 900million Android devices in the market compared to 600 million Apple products.

Although Apple recently celebrated 50 billion app downloads, users of Google's Android platform are currently downloading 500 million more apps per month.

Apple says that more than 850,000 titles are available at its App Store, while Google recently said that 48 billion apps in total had been downloaded from Play. Approximately 2billion iOS apps are downloaded each months, compared with 2.5billion from Play.

Continuing at current rates, Google is expected to be in the lead by October.  Great news for Android lovers :)

A new study has found for the first time ever that the majority of Americans now own smartphones. According to the Pew Research Center, 56% of Americans who are 18 and older now own smartphones, up from 46% in February of 2012, while overall cell phone penetration has grown from 88% in 2012 to 91%.

Statements from the report:

  • 55% of cell phone owners say that their phone is a smartphone.
  • 58% of cell phone owners say that their phone operates on a smartphone platform common to the U.S. market.

Taken together, 61% of cell owners said yes to at least one of these questions and are classified as smartphone owners. Because 91% of the adult population now owns some kind of cell phone, that means that 56% of all American adults are now smartphone adopters. One third (35%) have some other kind of cell phone that is not a smartphone, and the remaining 9% of Americans do not own a cell phone at all.

The BlackBerry Q10 has been put up for pre-order by AT&T today, while T-Mobile now has it in stock. If you aren't familiar, the Q10 is the keyboard version of the Z10. It carries the same 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 2GB of system memory, 8-megapixel camera and 16GB of flash memory as the Z10. Both handsets run the new BB10 operating system but the Q10 will ship with the latest version, 10.1.

The main difference, however, is the keyboard and the display. The QWERTY board takes up plenty of real estate which only leaves room for a 3.1-inch AMOLED screen operating at 720 x 720 pixels.

Here's some cool features of the Q10:

  • BlackBerry Hub - see your inbox from any app
  • Classic BlackBerry Keyboard supercharged with BlackBerry 10 - Instant Action for quick access to apps and functions
  • BB BalanceTM - work life and personal life, separate but equal
  • BBMTM Video with Screen Share - share content and apps

International Trade Commission said in a final decision today that Apple infringed upon a patent owned by Samsung in making some iPhone and iPad models, the U.S.

The panel issued a limited exclusion order and a cease-and-desist order for AT&T models of the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad 3G and iPad 2 3G. None of these are Apple's latest models, although the iPhone 4 and iPad 2 3G remain for sale on its website.

Sony plans to start selling its flagship Xperia Z phone through a U.S. carrier shortly; increased marketing efforts should help things, Sony CEO Hirai said.

Xperia Z managed to be the top-selling phone for six weeks straight in a highly competitive, which's Japan

Neither Sony nor T-Mobile are giving any hint as to when the expected launch would take place, but we would hope soon considering that the Xperia Z has been available internationally for a few months now. It's good to see that Sony is still willing to put in the effort to sell devices to the U.S. market, especially after some serious price drops in its Xperia ZL handset being sold unlocked here.

Sony may have shipped more than 4 million Xperia Z units around the world (as of April). Kaz Hirai did say that sales were going well, but didn't provide exact numbers. In any case, it's clear that there's demand for high-end waterproof smartphones - and this is why Samsung will introduce the Galaxy S4 Active in the near future.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom has being approved by the Federal Communications Commission.

As far as the hardware specs of the S4 Zoom are concerned, nothing has been announced (evidently), but rumors are suggesting that it will feature a 4.3 inch qHD Super AMOLED display, a 1.6 GHz CPU (of unknown make), 8GB of storage (expandable via a microSD slot), and a 1,900 mAh battery.

As far as the camera department is concerned, rumors are claiming that the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom will boast a 16MP rear facing camera with 10x optical zoom.

The Korean company is believed to announce the Galaxy S4 Zoom as well as other smartphones at its special London event on June 20.

Samsung announced just a few days ago it has shipped 10 million Galaxy S4 units globally. It is an impressive milestone achieved in less than a month.

According to RBC Captial Markets analyst Mark Sue, Galaxy S4 sales will reach 80 million units in 2013

"Galaxy S-4 demand in the first month of availability has been incrementally better than our estimate of 10M units," Sue wrote in a note to clients on Thursday. "In comparison, the S-III took nearly 2 months (50 days) to achieve the 10M units mark. Our broad-based channel checks at U.S. stores indicate that demand for the 16G S-4 devices remains strong with 32G Black devices mostly sold-out and 32G White devices yet to make it to the stores."

He continued, "At this pace, the GS-4 is likely to cross 20M shipments in 2Q13, potentially reaching 80M S-4 unit shipments in CY13. We expect the new version of Samsung's Note (III) to hit retail shelves in September. We expect Apple to have an updated multi-device smartphone portolio [sic] with the iPhone 5S, iPhone 5 and iPhone mini this year.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 momentum is far from over and Samsung is doing everything to maximize its potential. It has already announced the Galaxy S4 mini, but we expect the Galaxy S4 Active and Galaxy S4 Zoom smartphones to join the lineup very soon.

There were some rumors regarding to the  upcoming HTC Sense and Android 4.2.2 update for HTC One and HTC Butterfly. All were expecting HTC Sense 5.1 to show up, but instead, the version of HTC UI in latest Android 4.2.2 update is still 5.0. However, it does have a lot of important changes.  See below for a list.

List of improvements:

  • 1. % battery icon
  • 2. Android EQS
  • 3. Android Daydream
  • 4. Long press home button works as menu button.
  • 5. Minor changes in the app drawer and dock
